I am a current student for the 11-12 school year. CCST is a half-day vocational school for many fields including Firefighting/EMT, Automotive, Cosmetology, and many others. I entered this school as a Junior last year with a warm welcome by every teacher I met. I took the Computer System Tech class and was able to achieve my A+ certification in three months. I also was able to benefit from their broadcast radio class and got my amateur radio licence. Students must apply the year before to take classes here. I spend the other half of my day at my home school, Grassfield High. I am in the Technology Academy and was not happy with the IT course offerings. The four computer courses at CCST are much more advanced than the IT strand at Grassfield. Instead of Virginia SOL tests, CCST offers students internationally-recognized industry standard certifications. I am now in Networking working toward my CCENT (Cisco) certification. CCST may not have the newest building or heavy funding, but the people and opportunities there cannot be found anywhere else in Chesapeake.
