I was repeatedly harassed and bullied severely (I was receiving threats of being jumped and my close friends following the same road, friends were being purposely put against me) and yet nothing was done to mediate the situation. I had multiple cases of evidence I had showed the counselor and she took their side and blamed me for continuing the issue. There was no punishment and it made my year miserable. I had multiple friends who were also being bullied and nothing was done to resolve the issue. Do better.

Communication is very problematic at this school between parents and teachers. My student was often dismissed when she asked for help. Issues with keeping accurate attendance. 8th grade counselor and Principal were not supportive.

I have had a bad experience at this school. Would never recommend it. The food is pretty good but overall teaching methods are honestly pretty sucky :)

My child is thriving at HOMS. He has had a great experience with his teachers and classmates and enjoys participating in extra curricular activities. As a parent, I have been impressed with the communication from my sonÂ’s teachers. I always feel in the loop which deserves an A+ in my book!

Just the right amount of homework. Usually, none on weekends.

Hugo Owens middle school has been a very smooth transition for our child, thanks to the great educators in the school, leadership and fantastic parents involvement.

Posted: February 23, 2019

They have a gifted and honors program that intermingle which my daughter enjoys.

Posted: February 23, 2019

We have not had any problems with bullying in the school personally but my daughter says they take it seriously.

Posted: February 23, 2019

I love the remind app the teachers use and the workload seems the appropriate balance.

Posted: February 23, 2019

My daughter is in the gifted program and loves all her teachers.

Posted: February 23, 2019

The school has tons of inspirational quotes throughout and they are on top of the bullying situation.

Posted: February 23, 2019

My daughter is a cheerleader at the school it was great to see the leadership out cheering the kids on at games and teaching the children good sportsmanship.

Awesome. My oldest son loved the school and now my youngest has entered and loves it as well. Looking forward to a few more years of being a Mustang!

I have had two children in this school in the past two years. I am not the type of parent that needs a lot of interaction with teachers unless there is a problem, but anytime I have emailed or called a teacher with a question, I have always gotten a very prompt response. My oldest transferred into this school two years ago midway thru the 8th grade. I was pleased that she was promptly placed in both honors history and honors english based on her test scores the first two weeks of school. I now have a 7th grader at Hugo (she was also in 6th grade at Hugo) and is in the gifted program and orchestra. She is thriving in her environment.

There is very minimal communication between parent and teacher. Even with a special education student. All communication is due to myself forcing interaction. I have had to go outside the school to get any notice of severe problems. And yes as I have read prior in the remarks my child has also come home stating they saw cockroaches in the restroom. I am completely disappointed with this school and feel they are failing my child's needs. (Who is and always has been an honor roll student)

My child lost faith in the school in 6th grade. I have had to deal with an incident or two and neither were resolved. There is a disconnect between staff and parents. The school web site and edline.net are horrendous; both are severely underutilized.

Hugo Owens has been a great local school. Mr. Perez has made this school welcoming and full of pride.

Some of the teachers are absolutely horrendous. We've had problems (as have several other parents) with many of our kids' teachers. The staff and administration show inadequacies, and in general are cold and ineffective. My daughter was actually punched 3 times during lunch when a fight broke out next to her - a teacher saw my child on the ground crying in pain, and told her to "shake it off" and never addressed the issue. When I approached the principal, we were told the teacher didn't report that my daughter was caught up in the fight, and "must not have seen it". The boys were suspended, but no medical attention or even common decency was shown to my daughter. Between that, the nearly complete lack of attention toward the kids, and the numerous sightings of mice and roaches, I give Hugo an overall rating of 1.
