Got two girls that go here. They love their classes, sports are competitive and plenty of non sports extracurricular activities.

As a military family, the school staff was very helpful. The teachers have been fantastic and the staff has been friendly. I love that my kids know what the administrators look like because the hang out with the kids at lunch and talk to them.

Wonderful school and very supportive staff. Teachers are welcoming, involved, professional and great with students. Loved the ease of communication, professionalism, and care with the IEP process and excellent support staff. We have now had 2 children attend GBHS with very positive experiences.

If your child has any "disability" don't expect for this school to support inclusion. The principal and staff is most unprofessional.

Nearly all students graduate with honors. The school is safe and the staff is friendly, efficient and available to students & parents. The school uses parent portal so you can see your students grades, homework & upcoming tests which is a great tool!
The only negatives I can say is 1. the school is crowded. Because of this there are 3 different lunch times. The 3rd. Lunch time is rather late. Students often complain of not enough time to eat, sometimes are unable to find seats and long lunch lines if purchasing.
2. There is some bullying in the school that in my opinion went beyond say the normal teenage gossip. The matter was brought to the attention of her teachers, counselor & vice principal. They did offer support, concern and made allowances for my daughter as to avoid the bullying group. I just feel the students that were bullying weren't reprimanded enough, nor where their parents contacted. This went on for 6 months without a single student of that group being suspended. I found that ridiculous! It affected my child's grades, enthusiasm for school and overall emotional peace. It did finally end when ringleader graduated.

My four boys thrived in all aspects of high school at Great Bridge, from a thorough education to football, band and orchestra. Even with the newer schools in the area, I will recommend Great Bridge!

As a parent in the Great Bridge School District that resides out by the Oscar Smith area, we love our child attending GBHS as do our neighbors and their children.
Fernwood Farms is a lovely area and a great neighborhood.

I went to Great Bridge and so did my sisters, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and everyone else in my family. We all have watched the quality of the school get worse and worse over the years. Buses drive all the way to the Oscar Smith area to pick up kids that do not want to be picked up and brought to Great Bridge. They hate being there and act out in the classrooms making it extremely difficult to learn. The school administration needs to stop this and realize it has RUINED Great Bridge High School. People that are caught going to a school in a school district other than their own are immediately removed from the school. So, why is it that we have people in our school from other school districts? IT DOES NOT MAKE SINCE, AND IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE PEOPLE THAT PAY GOOD MONEY TO LIVE IN GREAT BRIDGE JUST SO THEIR KIDS CAN GET A GOOD EDUCATION!!!

Not what it used to be. Administration is uninterested in parental input and goes through the motions, as if working off a minimalist checklist. Special ed programs, in particular, seem designed to minimize teacher and staff effort, regardless of the impact on students and their education.

Great Bridge High School at one time was a jewel in Chesapeake, unfortunately over the last 10 years the city school system has plundered and pillaged the teaching staff and administration to fill newer schools, touted to be innovations (not nearly as impressive as they are supposed to be). What is left of Great Bridge is a shell, with few exceptions. Teachers who spend more time checking their email during class than instructing and substitutes who are not qualified to teach in the classroom where they are placed. Someone in city admin desperately needs to look behind the smoke and mirrors and return this school to the jewel it once was.
