My daughter started at Victory in kindergarten and is now going into 2nd grade and she has had a really good experience. The principal and staff care about their students and my daughter has been excited to go to school and show what shes learned when she comes home, and I feel that theyre on par with some schools in nearby Chesapeake. There are areas for improvement, sure, but Im pleased that my daughter is reading on a 4-5th grade level and has had great teachers who have been open to communication and encouraged our efforts to continue my daughters learning outside of the classroom as well.

We are stationed in Portsmouth and Victory Elementary School was in our zone. My child had started at Victory towards the middle of the year and within two weeks was crying in the mornings begging me not to take him. He even asked if he could switch to homeschooling. I had no communication from his teacher, the only time was when his homework was missing for two weeks. I voiced my concerns as to why it took someone two weeks to notice and did not get a reply. He was now failing his test and his grades are lower than ever. I gave this school two months and took my son out. He will never return back.

My son has autism. When I submitted the paperwork, I said he had autism, but I was first told that he was in the same class regardless of the development of all children. I sent a message to the teacher, but I was given only a phone number and was told to consult with the assistant vice-principal and a special education teacher. I couldn't connect no matter how many times he called. On the first day of school, he was listed as normal development and no teacher realized he had autism. Schools that are not linked at all.

The teachers at this School always make sure that my child understand what is being taught.

After homeschooling through 1st and 2nd grade in preparation of moving to VA, I was apprehensive about giving Victory a fair shot. So far, we are very glad we did! Our daughter is doing very well in 3rd grade and her teacher is absolutely AMAZING! The parent/teacher communication is such a blessing and Im confident in knowing exactly where my daughter is academically and having the ability to address any issues otherwise.

My daughter was in private school for several years, but we finally decided to give Victory a chance. She did well this year, and learned a lot! Her teacher was very kind and supportive and my baby made Honor Roll and Student of the Month. The building itself is newer and very clean. The Principal and Vice Principal are great. My daughter will be attending again next year. I wish the school offered Prek4 for her little sister!

Reading reviews, I'm not sure I'm at the same Victory. Maybe because some of the posts are so old, but I'm so impressed with Victory. It is a well managed school. Principal Williams is kind and welcoming. My child's teacher is amazing. You can really tell his heart is in teaching. My daughter comes home singing and dancing songs that help her learn. She says he's "the most fun teacher ever." She loves school for the first time ever and I'm so glad we are stationed here. Navy should be thankful that they are zoned here and not Brighton. Everyone I know that got a waiver came running back here. I wish a PTA was more established at Victory.

It's and average elementary school. The front office staff knows me very well as I am an active parent and do not totally rely on the teachers to teach EVERYTHING to my child. I understand that they are measured by and for the SOLs. Anytime I have an issue, I just go onto the Power school App, email the teacher and I ALWAYS receive a same day response. Now, I do agree with some of the other reviewers on the amount of homework that my daughter has had in previous years. However, I also feel that if you are an active parent, you understand homework is a part of the education process and only gets worst as they get older.

Victory Elementary is a horrible school. My son will not be attending there next year. My son comes home with ridiculous assignments that are not preparing him for middle school. I would rather pay tuition at a private school.

I should not helping my son do homework for two hours. I don't have time to draw pictures in the fourth grade.

This is my first year teaching at victory elementary and I couldn't be happier. There hasn't been one day this year that I haven't left work full of joy and gratefulness for the students and the staff. The ministration is fair, and the assistant principal makes the students and staff laugh on a regular basis. Students truly are cared for and come first at the school and you would be lucky to have your child to attend here. PS, you know it's a good school when most of the staff who has young children bring them to attend at victory.

If I could give it NO STARS I would! Had to pull my son out after just a few months. Horrible teachers, horrible staff!

Victory Elementary is the worst school my children have ever attended! The teachers talk bad to the kids telling them to "shut their mouthes" asking if they understand English. And the principle and assistant principle don't do anything about the bullying issue at this school. The kids are talked down to and noe ofte teachrs care abut them or their education, they keep demanding kids be medicated if they have a little to much energy or are bored and very advanced. This school is just a sick place to be, they have had issues with head lice and bed bugs! If you don't have to, DONT send your kids here!!

While I agree with some of the previous comments, the new leadership is 100% better than the previous one. The old leadership(principal) bullied teachers, staff and talked down to parents.....The school could be better but it''s much better now that the BULLY is gone!!

This may be the worst school on the planet. I do however adore one of the Kindergarten teachers. All I have to say is that Mrs. Angela Flowers is a complete failure to these students. When my son was threatened with his life this women was no where to be found. Her assistant principle is a complete airhead and blows stuff off as kids will be kids. I might also add that the office staff is so rude and I can't believe they are allowed to work with the general public. I have never felt so uncomfortable as I do in this school. I can not believe that the Military gives this school any funding. It is also a disgrace that the reason there is no communication between parents and teachers is because they claim to have no funding for paper to give to their staff. They also have no reading program for advanced children. Every person living within this area should petition to get The administration and office staff removed from Victory Elementary so they can stop failing their teachers and most importantly our children.

My daughter started attending this school of September of 2012. We are stationed in the area and zoned for Victory. My daughters original math teacher was a completely useless. My daughter has always struggled with math and when we went on vacation recently I did not wnat her to fall behind. Her teacher brushed off my concerns saying that she was good at math scoring a 70 on the benchmark (really, that's good?). Another occasion my daughter came home telling me about her teachers personal issues. Kids in your class do not need to know your business. I'm so ready to transfer in order for my kids to get a better education.

I have observed this school several times this year. The leadership is terrible. The principal stays in her office or somewhere out of sight. The assistant principal is loud and inept. The office staff is rude, especially the one with the curly weave. The office staff enjoys saying negative things about the parents and the children. According to a staff member, "We are running a day care." Parents are constantly asked to send monies for fund raisers. Some of the teachers are good, some are not so good. The academic program is SOL only, nothing more.

My grandson has had nothing but troulbe from this school. His dad is in the Navy and we have tried everything to help him in school. The staff state they will follow plans but they don't. We have even been to counselors and had them help develop a plan they don't follow in the least. We try to be involved and get rejected at each opportunity. My grandson has a target on his back and all the students there know it, and harass him terribly.
