My child attended this school for 2 years from 1st to 2nd grade. The education is good; however, the leadership is bad. From the start, my family felt the school was just interested in our money. I understand that the school is a for profit organization, but it is also supposed to be Christian, with Christian values. Constantly asking us to give to their capital campaign and increasing tuition for no specific reason, does not make us feel very welcome other than for the purpose of taking our money. And we have the money to give because my husband and I are in professional fields. However, the administrators at this school are trying to treat this school like it is a college, and it is certainly not. I'm sorry, but I am not support your fund for building field house for tennis courts. How about we do better with the math curriculum? Second, the parents at the school are mostly snobs. I would say 75% of them come from wealth, and therefore expect you to wear name-brand outfits at pickup, but then don't pay attention to their kids when they are on the quad fighting or leaving their babies on the ground for all the germs to get them. You can feel the tension from the group staring at you when you aren't wearing that $500 jacket or boots. The families that go to Veritas do not conform to the Christian way even though they limit what their children listen to on the radio or watch on tv. Third, we only sent our daughter here but for the proximity to our house. Definitely not the Harvard of the South, so please don't send your child and pay that extra money for connections alone. While education is important, we think that it is important for our child to go to a school that cares about the child not just the money.

After graduating from Veritas, I’ve come to see how deeply this school shaped my most formative years. Attending from 8th through 12th grade, I received an education that went far beyond academics. It taught me to think critically, communicate with clarity and grace, and view every aspect of life through a biblical lens. That foundation has been an immeasurable gift and one that continues to shape who I am today. In college, I quickly saw how Veritas prepared me, especially as a writer and thinker, giving me the confidence to continue growing in both faith and intellect. What I cherish most, though, is the community. Veritas finds joy in shared faith, and reconnecting with others who’ve shared that experience always feels like coming home. Many of my dearest friendships began there; my husband and I even met at Veritas. I’m profoundly thankful for how this school brought us together and taught us to rest on the firm foundation of our faith through every season of life.

I have two children who are now alumni from this school who attended from early elemenatary through their high school graduation. They are both thriving in college and credit their education at this school for making them well-rounded and deep thinkers, strong writers and invested in relationships. They have gone on to develop friendships with their college faculty based on the foundation they got from their high school teachers. The education they received at Veritas was well beyond the academic classroom and was truly meant to grow them into engaged adults. We are grateful for every dime spent on this education and value the relationships we have with other parents, other students and the school community.

Our family has been a part of Veritas for a dozen years and we have been incredibly blessed by the experience. Our children are quite different from each other, and the school has met each of them where they are. Academic strengths have been further enriched, both academic and behavioral struggles have been met with understanding and partnership as we’ve worked together to help our kids grow. Raising kids together is hard, but we’ve found the school’s leadership, faculty, and parents to be a wonderful community.

We have been a part of this amazing community for eight years, having moved our eldest over from her local elementary school when she was a rising second grader. Her two siblings both followed her to Veritas upon reaching school-age. The level of instruction at Veritas is second to none and nests completely with the Christ-centered worldview which permeates everything at this school, from rigorous academics to competitive sports. I highly recommend Veritas to any parent seeking to match a world class education with Christian formation.

Our family has absolutely loved being part of this school community. The relationships we’ve built here—with other families, teachers, and students—run deep and have been such a blessing. I appreciate that my children aren’t just memorizing facts; they’re learning to think critically and independently through a classical education rooted in truth. Veritas School is committed to providing a classical, Christian education that is academically robust. The combination of classical and Christian with strong academics is not easy to find in Richmond, VA or anywhere else for that matter. We have three children who have been attending Veritas for the last 8 years and we are extremely pleased with the young adults they are becoming. They feel known and respected by their teachers, advisors, and peers and have developed a strong love of learning. Veritas provides an education that is formation of the whole person. As parents, we are excited to see how they grow and learn as they continue their Veritas education.

From a glance, Veritas sounds like the perfect place to send your child for a classical education. But in reality, unless your child fits perfectly into their cookie-cutter expectations, they will NOT have a good school experience; in fact, they might get punished for it.

The social aspect is not any better. The student body at Veritas is mostly made up of one big "cool kids clique" that will bully, gossip, shame and/or exclude the child if they don't live or act like them/live up to the schools expectations. This lack of diversity in personalities is harmful for students (esp. teenagers) and their mental health.

Their classical approach is trapping students in a bubble that is unrealistic compared to the real world.
The school favors large donor families and gives them special treatment.
This school is for self entitled parents who want to brag about sending their child there, not for parents that care for & want to prepare their child for real world scenarios.

My family is so thankful for Veritas! Veritas' 'Portrait of a Graduate' articulates a cogent case for 'why Veritas' and is a key reason why our family chose Veritas. Our girls are in their fourth year and these four years have been an incredible gift to our family. During this time, we've seen our girls be academically challenged in grammar, logic, and rhetoric, discipled in their faith and blessed with a community of administrators, teachers, and parents who partner to develop each child. My daughters love being at Veritas and eagerly anticipate the start of each school year. As a parent, it's such a wonderful blessing to see their love of learning and Veritas. Our three children have attended this school for five years and we absolutely love it. One of the things we have found extremely valuable is how the school comes alongside families, resourcing parents (workshops, reading recommendations etc) and working with us to raise our children towards what the school calls "The Portrait of a Graduate". It's a beautiful picture of the long-range goal of developing young people to seek out what is good, true and beautiful and most importantly following after Christ. While I would consider this an academically rigorous school, that provides a very rich and comprehensive education, in my experience our kids have actually really enjoyed what they learn/read and often come home and continue discussions from school. We have also had great experiences with student support staff when needed. The fact that the school holds "habits of the heart" as equally as important is worth its weight in gold for us as parents. There is also a pretty heavy emphasis on community and parent involvement which we have found to be a driver for a very healthy school culture over-all. We have loved having our kids at a school that cares not only about what our children grow up to be but also who they grow up to be.

I spent close to quarter million dollars at this school and was left with kids that had destroyed confidence and were at least a year behind grade level. Thankful to have gotten out when we did! Kids are now caught up to grade level and thriving confidence!

I cannot say enough good things about Veritas! This is our 7th year having a child there and our experience has been great. Our children are daily being challenged academically, building sweet friendships, having their eyes opened to the beauty and goodness of God in the world around them, and are led by a staff who genuinely cares for them. The school embodies a culture of grace, kindness and excellence. Our family has benefitted greatly from the rich community made up of staff and other Veritas families. I wouldn’t want my children to be anywhere else.

My husband and I have been thrilled with our decision with bringing our daughter to Veritas. This is our second year at the school and she has not only thrived academically but she gained self-confidence to try new endeavors such as acting and school sports. Strongly agree but with a twist, their methods are quite different. They are looking at and asking the students/parents to look at the heart of the child and correct it there. They are asking parents to discuss and discipline at home. They are also having children become used to asking others for forgiveness and having the student impacted to give it. Much different than forcing an apology.

We have been at Veritas since kindergarten, and now have high schoolers. We've seen the school grow and develop, and are very happy with our children's education and experience. We believe they are getting a unique education, that is strong academically, that emphasizes lifetime learning, lifetime character, integrity on/off the field or in/out of the classroom, and relationships within grades, between grades and with faculty/staff.

Students do have homework, which is becoming more unusual. My children manage after school activities and sports, and have learned to schedule their time to get their homework done. I'm glad for strong writing skills and time management that my children have learned from at home assignments and homework.

My Lower School students do not receive too much homework. The homework they are assigned reinforces what they have learned in class that day. It is not busy work, but allows them to review and further practice their lessons. The teachers prioritize reading and helping to form good study habits.

Keith Nix has assembled quite a dynamic team at Veritas. We felt from the beginning that the leadership was very approachable - and they are! We have met with different administrative members one-on-one a few times and they are very approachable and they actually follow-up with the discussion in the weeks that follow!

Veritas continues to add Learning Specialist to their faculty and staff. We have used these accommodations and have been pleased with them. They have set up a neat system that basically a-la-carte.... you pay for the extra services that you use and this does not add to the tuition costs of those who are not using the services. The teachers are also very open to assist with different learning styles and we value all of the accommodations that they have given our children!

We had one encounter with this. We had someone from the administration call us and we spoke to them and they set up a time for both sets of parents to speak to each other. This conversation was followed up by the administration and the teacher. The teacher met with the each student and then at an appropriate time had the students come together to issue and receive a proper apology. The teacher followed up with us about the student-meeting and also addressed it at a later meeting - giving us an update on the situation! We were pleased with the process.

I can only speak for the Lower and Middle School, but the teachers are very aware of not over-loading students with homework! They came up with a new policy about two years ago, because many parents thought there was too much homework. Lower school focuses their homework on READING - making sure the student reads EVERY NIGHT. This was due to research showing how important reading is and how many times it gets pushed aside due to other homework assignments. Middle School teachers told us at Back to School Night that homework should not be more than 20 minutes per class and the teachers do communicate (how refreshing to hear this?) with each other to know when large projects and tests are on the calendar!

We have had children in two other private schools and I have never seen teachers so committed to their students, the parents, their profession and The Lord! We have personally, over the past 4 years, witnessed teachers go ABOVE and BEYOND their job description. The enthusiasm they have for Classical Education and Christianity is almost contagious! To be realistic, these teachers are human, and have their faults like the rest of us, but they are quite impressive!

This is probably one of the largest strengths of Veritas. The school is focused on instilling life-long Christian beliefs into their students. I have seen this in the lower school and middle school and know that it is very apparent in their graduates from attending graduations!

We LOVE Veritas! Both of our children started at Veritas in JK and have been thriving. I am constantly surprised about what my children are learning. We love that our children are being taught cursive and are learning to read and pronounce words by learning the phonetic value of letters and letter groups. I am also thankful that all the teachers value being outside, from outdoor recess to nature studies. We love the Veritas community and that our children are known.

This school drills in on these values, but also, it does not leave room for particular growth as a person. It is more like a recipe, if we teach and drill then this will produce a type of person. The students may learn these things, but will they value it by seeing this in the teachers and staff, I think not.

My children have been going to Veritas for over 6 years. My family has recently gone through a divorce, and the school has been most judgmental. My Children and myself have been treated like there is something wrong with us. No support what so ever for the transitions that have to be made in our family at this time. My fifth grader had to sit in the office for an hour because she wore the wrong shoes to school. She was sent home another day because they didn't like her hair color in her hair. She was told she could not come back to school until it was either cut out or washed out. Most people barely noticed it. Her teacher calls her a bad child. My daughter is a A student, shy, artistic and lovely. The lower head of school is non emotional and disconnected. They expect students to fit in boxes and there is no room for individualization what so ever. What I am trying to say is they produce a certain type of student. If you like a cookie cutter, no personality, no individualization of your child, then this is the place for you. There is HUGE favoring of certain wealthier families who can fund their projects. Also, if you are a family of ethnicity then you will be in all the photos, on the front of their web site, and on any promotional outgoing mails. It is sickening how they market these families to draw in a certain persona.

We have been a Veritas family for 4 years. Our children enrolled as upper school students and we have been impressed with the quality of the teachers and their interest in helping our children succeed academically and athletically. The school administration is accessible and open to feedback. The small class sizes guarantee adequate time and attention is paid to all students. Veritas is the right fit for our family.

We strongly considered this school, and know at least a dozen families with students attending... however I feel that it is not the school for anyone out of their "standard student." It is GREAT that Richmond has this choice in it's great repertoire of private school choices! Also, the Classic Curriculum was very impressive to us. However, we feel like the school has growing pains (maybe overwhelmed?,) and isn't set up to address anything out of the ordinary; nor did they seem open to parent comments/concerns. I had several questions during the admissions & follow-up process that went unanswered (both voice mails & e-mails.) My children are both very different, and I just didn't feel like the school was prepared to handle both of them, with their different learning styles (one very vivacious/outgoing and one very introverted/shy.) They both go to a prominent private school, and I'm disappointed that they couldn't "fit in" at Veritas. With all this said, I look forward to seeing what Veritas looks like in another 10 years!

Ask one of the many families who have left the school in recent years why they chose to leave. Ask why parents aren’t able to give confidential teacher evaluations. There is an enormous problem with favoritism by some of the teachers and administration. Students/families who are not favored are treated disrespectfully by the administration and teachers alike.

Veritas has a wonderful lower school program, but the upper school is not where it needs to be. There is a large turnover of families in middle and high school. The counseling community is aware of the social problems at the school. Lower school teachers are very nurturing, kind and fair; some upper school teachers are this way, but some are the opposite. Several of the best upper school teachers have left recently. Buyer beware.

Veritas is a high performing private school that uses unique educational methods that often are reserved for post-secondary educational institutions in the context of a distinctly Christian worldview. This isn't a traditional "church school" where spiritual education comes first, then academics. It uses a rigorous, integrated curriculum that isn't for everybody. If you prefer a faith-first approach where education takes a back seat, then look elsewhere. If you want to help your kids love to learn, and grow in their love of wisdom, beauty, and virtue, then Veritas is for you.

I am the father of three kids who have attended Veritas for many years. I am so very thankful that such an amazing school is available in richmond. The curiculum is challenging, engaging, Chirst centered, and building them for a life and love of learning and critical thinking. I also am thankful for the culture of the school which treasures pure beauty and character. All three of my kids truly love the school and the other students. I am impressed when other kids come to our house. I find them smart, engaging and a real joy. Many of these qualities have been developed and nurtured in a partnership between the school and the kids' parents. As a father of a graduating senior, I love the supportive faculty, the close community culture, and the rich content. Veritas School is an excellent environment academically, spiritually, and behaviorally --- parents pay for a well-run school and classrooms that are under the control/care of teachers. I am thankful that teachers care, advocate for my 3 children, and are as engaged as they are. I give high marks for the school and the teachers. I give 4.5 only because I know there is always room for improvement. I could also understand that not all families will fit -- especially if the student has been in public school too long or has behavioral challenges that cause disruptions -- parents will be engaged to help find a solution. I am the father of 4 children who attend Veritas School and my wife and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this community of learning. Both our boys and girls are thriving under the care discipleship of their teachers and facilty. While they are being academically challenged by the rigorous classical education, we see tangible fruit of God's redemptive work in their hearts... we are see students with "strong minds, soft hearts and full souls". If you are considering a Christian education, we welcome you to please take time to visit our campus, meet the faculity, talk with some students and enter into the conversation. We have a son and a daughter at Veritas, and we could not be more pleased with the combination of academic rigor, nurturing environment, and Christian values that permeate everything they learn and do. Our kids are in the lower school, but whenever we have the opportunity to speak with or listen to an upper school student, we are so impressed, and are excited to think that Veritas will have that kind of positive influence on our children during their formative years. We consider it a privilege to be a part of this community.

As a father of 2 students, I am greatly encouraged by Veritas. At every parent forum I attend I am renewed and energized about education. I love that Veritas is seeking things that are honorable and excellent. God's Word is incorporated in day to day conversations about the learning experience with my kids which I love! My opinion is that Veritas is seeking to graduate the well-rounded student to love things of virtue and to love learning. All the staff I have interacted with have been nothing but extremely kind and understanding. They are almost super human sometimes! Veritas is a growing school who's Head of School loves all the students and staff and probably knows every parent/guardian by first name! Don't let the price tag scare you. Come in for an anytime walk through. You will not regret it!

This school has been a great dissapointment this year. In the past it was a great Christian school, but this year it ihas changed. Not only have they taken the Christian out of the name but I feel they have taken it out of the school also. I found the teachers in my childs grade level would rather tell him/her how bad he/she was doing as opposed to how well he/she could do, and they did not even want or try to help him/her. We ended up having to get outside tutors to catch him/her up because the teachers did not want to. Make sure you understand the curriculum they use also as it is much different then other private schools.

VERITAS is a place where teachers truly love my three children and where I know the same values we have at home are lived out during the school day. We thank God often for having this option here in Richmond. The rigorous academics and fun style of learning have given my children the gift of success as students. I am stunned at the amount of knowledge they are retaining and the depth of conversations I am able to have with them about what they are learning. Access to the educators and administrators is great and the community of parents is like an extended family. We love VERITAS and I look forward to graduating all of my children from this incredible institution.

Veritas is a wonderful educational community. This is our second year with students in the second & fourth grades. As a former teacher, what drew me to Veritas was the exceptional curriculum for a small Christian school. Our students read exceptional literature from every genre, my fourth grader is reading excerpts from literature that aren't encountered until the 12th grade in public school. But what we have fallen in love with is the teachers. Again, having worked with large faculties, I have never encountered a group of teachers so loving, caring that put their students hearts above their students' test scores. Our son developed anxiety from Kindergarten in a public school with over 700 students and 26 in a class. Now he thrives in small classes of 13 or 14 students with the most wonderful teachers who nurture, love and set high standards, but don't coddle. I have and will recommend this school to everyone I know.

Our family is incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to send our children to Veritas. This is our third year at the school and we have children in second grade, kindergarten and the new K4 classroom. We originally chose to send our first child to Veritas for the small class sizes, individualized attention and accountability he would receive. We were concerned for his heart and wanted to make sure he was well loved and cared for in the classroom. Now that we have a couple of years of experience at the school, we are greatly encouraged that our children's hearts are not only well taken care of, but their minds are flourishing in a classical learning environment. We were unfamiliar with the classical education model prior to becoming Veritas parents; we are now convinced this traditional form of education is advantageous. The new campus on the Northside is simply beautiful. I was wary at first of the new commute, but its surprisingly convenient to get in/out from major roadways. It is with much gratitude and excitement that we look forward to watching Veritas grow and flourish in its new home.

I am the proud parent of two African American students, my husband and I have been extremely pleased with how they have been received loved and nurtured. The entire Veritas Community has been a tremendous support to us as we have adjusted to this phenomenal school. I would not recommend that you that you walk to this school I would encourage anyone who is looking for a superior academic experience for their children to run to this school! It is Christ centered and a wonderful environment to learn and grow! Also I would like to add the new campus is simply beautiful!

As a parent of a student in second grade I have been incredibly impressed by the sincere care that each teacher has demonstrated toward my daughter over the last three years. Teachers truly take the time to learn the particular strengths and weaknesses of each child. Without compromising the integrity of the curriculum, teachers offer instruction that clearly takes their understanding of each child into account. Furthermore, I have found my daughter's teachers to be great communicators. All of her teachers have been eager to partner with my wife and I, including graciously offering advice regarding the supporting our daughter's learning at home.

Veritas is a wonderful school! As a teacher here, I have seen firsthand the dedication shown by my colleagues. The teachers and the administrative staff here truly care about each student. They are always willing to go the extra mile, whether to care for a student's heart or to improve the quality of their instruction. As someone just starting a family, I hope to send my kids to Veritas when they are old enough to attend school.

Our family is pleased to be a part of the Veritas School community. For six years, we have seen our child thrive in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ through a beautifully integrated, K-12 classical curriculum. It is quite evident that the school is committed to fine tuning its craft and with every passing year, I see Veritas developing into one of the finest secondary schools in the region. It's an exciting place to be. Many parents will agree with me that one of school's greatest strengths is a dedicated and godly faculty. The men and women who teach my child are excellent at what they do and they sincerely care for their students. I also acknowledge God's immense blessing of strong leadership in our Head of school, board and administration. This has been paramount to enabling our next step: growing into a permanent home where the joy of learning, serving others, and glorifying God is natural pursuit. Keep it up, Veritas!

We moved to Richmond from a very strong international school overseas. Initially, we worried that our children would have a difficult time adjusting to school in the US - Veritas turned out to be the perfect place for them to land. The teachers were incredibly patient, spending time praying with and for our kids as they transitioned, their classmates were welcoming and while the academic expectations are high, I see students rising to the challenge and enjoying school more because their minds are fully engaged. Veritas school culture encourages students to do their best, whether in the classroom, on the field or in an artistic endeavor. We've also been warmly welcomed by the parent community, and have found many ways to be involved. Veritas has been one of the best parts of our move to Richmond.

I have been involved in Christian education at all levels for the past twenty-two years. What drew me to Veritas School two years ago was their commitment to not simply educate the students, but to provide an environment that shows the students what are objective truth and beauty and to appreciate them and to seek after them in all aspects of their lives AND that they are only attainable within a biblical framework. The school also is committed to continual improvement. They recognize they must continually be striving for excellence in order to actually have excellence. The integration of subject matter and the desire to have teachers who want to be the best in their respective fields are other reasons I found Veritas School to be so attractive. I have not been disappointed, especially with respect to the headmaster and the board and their commitments to excellence.

Veritas School is unprecedented in the Richmond area! From our initial school tour and classroom visit, we quickly recognized Veritas as a unique and special place. Our family has been a part of this growing and thriving community for 5 years. As a classical, Christian school, Veritas is truly Christ-centered and academically challenging, teaching our children how to think and learn from a Biblical-world view. The faculty supports our efforts as parents to develop character, the love of learning, and the love of Christ in our children. When we consider the amount of time our children spend each day in their school environment, we are so thankful for the positive impact the teachers, administration, and fellow students have in their lives.

We have been at Veritas for four years, and it has been a perfect fit. It's one thing to look good on paper and another to find a school that practices that vision with such excellence. The teachers take the time to know, respect, and appreciate my son for who he is. Because of that, he is encouraged to honor the Lord in his academics and with his character. Veritas is a community that loves learning of all kinds: My son reads great books, studies the unfolding of history and God's hand in it, is practicing speaking with eloquence, and is appreciating the order (and beauty!) of math and writing. The athletic program has grown and is thriving! We love the competition of soccer and basketball and the friendships that occur on the field and court. We are so grateful to be a part of this school.

Not impressed at all. They have not been willing to work with us as a new family. We wanted to spend time in the classroom, but they refused. It takes the teacher 5 mins to attempt to get the students lined up to leave lunch! Even then the students are still out of order. The PE class is held in the parking lot - how dangerous is that?
