I am a currently a senior at this school the way care about phones more then the students is beyond comprehension from me today I came in the morning and did the usual security routine the security devices are good I’ll hand it to them but the way they treated me today was so terrible they took my phone case because it was “broken” which means they could open the phone case with their hands so they took my phone and my phone case and said I had to pick it up at the end of the day or when I leave. so I had all my classes finished up and I left early as usual I had to get redirected to 3 different people. When I finally met the right person (the principal) I had to walk with her for about 5-7 minutes because she was busy. I understand that she’s gonna be busy and all but the way she was treating me was not something I appreciated I told her I didn’t know it was broken and she had the audacity to say I did and not to bring it again treating me worse then I deserve I’m always in class I always come to school on time and don’t skip like others but in that moment it felt like she treated me worse then all these kids who skip. I was just getting backhanded talks like I was some sort of bad guy the amount of effort I put into my school work and the type of student I am I felt so much less motivation at that point I didn’t even want to go to school anymore I was getting talked by this one counselor threatening to call my mother he didn’t even know what was going on he just assumed I did something bad because I was in the principals office at that point I was tired of it all I just wanted to get my phone and leave it was not that complicated just hand me my phone from the storage closet and I’ll go on about my day until one of the teachers came by the I think he’s a principal of some sort and he handed me my phone he was the only one kind to me. No bad talk just gave me it and he even checked my case to see if it’s truly broken. At the end of the day I’m only writing this review because I’m mad and want others to not experience what I did if your a parent and you moved to Hopewell Va and want to enroll you’re student to Hopewell high school please don’t the teachers are good only part that I like from this school but this system is terrible low graduation rate and the only thing that I see them do for the school is try their hardest to keep students from having their phone. In conclusion Im mostly mad about the way they handled it just give me my phone and let me go

I spent 3 years here (2022-2025) and I can safely say this school needs some serious help. Most of their enforced policies, such as phone pouches, cause more problems than they actually help. Things were just consistently ran in a sloppy way. As a junior and senior, notifications about important events were slim to none. Some of the staff members really should not be in the positions they are in. Some actions I’ve seen come out of teachers are borderline unprofessional. However, there are a handful of great teachers there who genuinely care about students, and make the whole experience a lot more bearable. If you can, send your kid somewhere else, this school is a giant headache 90% of the time.

I believe that school should be a safe learning environment for students. Hopewell High School is not a good representation of my beliefs. DO NOT send your children here. As someone who recently graduated, I can confidently say that your child will have more success in their future being a crackhead than attending this school.

The teachers are terrible, and the student engagement is worse. Although there is a select few who actually care for their students, the majority of the staff is only there for a paycheck.

Not only is the education bad, but the cleanliness of the school is disgusting. While getting to my classes, I would commonly walk past insects and rodents.

While I was in attendance, I was repetitively late to classes. I can’t even count how many verbal and physical altercations I would see between students. During these fights, hallways would be closed off, and often the school was put in a “hold in place”.

Overall, this school is not a safe space for your students. All of the things I’ve shared have only been a handful of situations I’ve seen, but there are many more flaws with this school. With my four years in attendance, I can confidently say that you should not send your children here.

I just found out that Hopewell High School is fully accredited! Congratulations to all of our teachers, staff, and especially students. You represent our community very well! Keep up the great work!

Horrible. More than half school population gets reduced/free lunch. SOL's are far under the national average. Check the facts and tour the school BEFORE you enroll your children to ANY of Hopewell's schools. Ask questions, talk to residents of the city who's children have attended.

Excellent school! Many extra curricular and sport activities. Love their Robotics program! Like in any school, you get what you put in it! Students who put effort excel, many good teachers and great staff. Recently renovated building. Lots of technology in every classroom.

Not much has changed. The school system does barely anything to stay within regulatory means. Turns a blind eye to bullying, treating it like "Survival of the fittest". Amazes me a town along a river puts forth such low effort and has low value.

My Son has been in HHS going on two years now we are a military family not from here. He is in jrotc the school,teachers have been great to my son and he loves it. We will be moving this summer but I know he will miss this school.
