10th Street School

If you want you Child Bullied send them to 10th street!!! The Secretary is amazing but Basically the Principal but is overwhelmed with the Disobedient Children, and claims the victim is the problem for defending themselves when it’s been clear as Day who the problem Children are!!! The Reason i give a few stars is Mr. Sackman & Ms. Gonzales are both amazing there’s a few more teachers & staff that have good intentions.. The principal is rude she likes cut you off when talking so obviously her trying talk over everyone she really isn’t listening/taking in what we are saying cause she’s trying to respond before we even finished the sentence

I think there are opportunities for growth - but I can't put all the blame on the school district because the kids we generate in our homes are the same kids that bully in schools. Be involved in your kids lives, make sure they learn compassion, and listen if you are told they are acting inappropriately in school. We model behavior and the school district has limited time to correct any bullying values we foster at home.

I loved the experience my children had at this school. The classroom student ration was awesome, the teachers interacted with every student and made sure to include parents at every level. Yes, there were some difficulties in getting homework done - but my kids were learning to be responsible as well. I appreciated all the kindness and positive interaction that my kids had during their three years there. Also, the school is art/music based. That means they don't need to know how to be an artist or play an instrument - they just have to be willing to try.

Because the school was using IPads we were able to complete homework even when we had doctor appointments and family vacation that required missing a school day.

The teachers here really care about the kids and make sure to provide not only in classroom experiences, but many community and travel experiences as well.

I agree mostly. There have been instances where certain kids were allowed to bully/intimidate other kids while others were removed from the school.

The school is definitely held together by the Secretary who is an amazingly effective leader. The people in the leadership paid role are non-existent but will come to a meeting if you request one.

I only know my experience.....I fought for my child and was able to secure accommodations because I could pay for an independent evaluation. If that had not occurred I would still be waiting.

For anyone out there looking into sending your child to 10th Street, hopefully this is useful
Information I wish I had. This is a musically driven school. Your child must have prior experience with an instrument to even be considered. The school holds a lottery once a school year for those interested in attending. I believe that is why there is a feeling of exclusivity to attend the school by the staff. The focus seems to be college preparation, and above grade level work.
The school only has one teacher per subject, that makes it difficult if the teacher isn't a good fit.
There are no school administrators available on the campus. The principal and counselor share responsibility between 10th Street and Arts and Tech High School next door. Their offices are not at 10th street, however there is a secretary on campus at all times. She has to take on a lot of those responsibilities. She seems to be spread thin. She does her job well and loves the kids and is very involved, she just isn't very warm unless she know you well. That made for some hurt feelings and misunderstandings.
It is difficult to see your child's progress without checking multiple sources, it is an all ipad school. The grades are not updated frequently in the Skyward grade book, the teachers rotate their planning days, science and math grades are not entered till their grading day. So a week and a half can go by before you know how your student is doing. Most of the grades are located in Canvas, but the grades don't reset at the end of the quarter. So be prepared to figure out the grades on your own. As a parent it was frustrating. I did voice my concerns about this to the teachers.
This is a public school. It runs more like a private school. It is all one enclosed building for all of the classes, except PE, they use the shared gym or the field.
We found the science class was sometimes even beyond a community college level. Please take the constructive criticism and consider condensing it down a bit.
The rest of the classes seemed to be age appropriate, although above grade level, it was achievable. The mock trial is also an amazing opportunity 10th Street offers their students. 2016 State Champs!
In closing, Nathan Sackman is AMAZING, he loves the students and is a great band director/teacher. He really made it a great experience for our child.

I am a student at 10th street, and i do not like it at all. It Is just to small, we do nothing. In language arts and social studies we literally just sit there for two hours and go to the next classes and just sit there. At 10th street your just trapped there, it is just too small. Right know i am in 7th grade, at first the school is fun i loved it! But once the year progressed, and then the beginning of this year i really just want to get out of there, it is just so, Claustrophobic. I would not recommend this school.

this is our final year at 10th st and maybe wont stay the whole year the last response wass so correct it has declined so badly and my child is suffering. so wonts to stay with her friends but has gone from straight A student to 2 failing classes with the 2 teachers discribed in the last reveiw. still loves music and art but learning nothing in social studies or Language arts the IPADsand lack of teaching has ruined her education and we must leave and correct it if there is no change. Principal is nonexistant. teachers have no contact even when you ask them and demand a conference they say its not needed. cant admit that their IPAD decision was wrong at our childrens expense. must make changes soon.

IT is so sad...I wish the previous review was still true. No longer great teaching but sleeper teachers in 2 major areas. Lets start with the positive MUSIC is king here,it's amazing. The teacher rocks and is inspiring. The science teacher is involved the students. The math teacher entered 2 months into the year and has done her best to catch students up. I supplement my child's LA & SS courses at home. Those teachers have even said that they do not do their jobs. There is no feedback in those two courses. They were not ready for Ipads. I have not been opposed to the Ipads but I certainly have not seen the "excellence" it was suppose to add. Communication is terrible. You have to "find" the communication if you want to stay in the loop, then you have to look in four different places. And if you or your child misses something, you are treated like " how could you miss it? it was at such and such place" Deadlines change often or assignments do. My child has one writing assignment that she put at least 10 pages of effort into and it was never collected. Parents want to be involved, have shared their concerns & are ignored. There is NO principal on campus, no consistent discipline.

This school has excellent teaches, clubs, acedemics, and even students. Our acedemics are challenging but our teachers are always there to help out. I am very thankful to all of my teachers and peers for making my learning experience at 10th street a great experience. We have an amazing variety of after school clubs that each student has an opportunity to join, from Jazz Band, to a club where you can make your own band (The Other Club), dj club, and game club. This school has figures of authorit all around, which comes in handy when violence breaks out, so we have a safer learning community. We also get many opportunities to go on camping trips and fieldtrips unlike any other school. And the best thing for parents is, if they want to come and help out they can do so whenever they want, parents are always involved in their child's learning. I am glad I got into a school of such quality. I hope you enjoy this school as much as I do.
