My child went to a ICE walkout, where the teachers decided to give them a suspension for "disruption of others learning" when they weren't even on campus! In an email, the school stated that they are NOT responsible for our children's actions and wellbeing outside of school, but then proceeded to follow our children out in cars, even getting out and glaring at them. Also in the email the principal, Rebecca Porter, stated, "We hope your students make good choices today." Which HEAVILY implies that any CHILD who had the guts to protest made a bad choice. This school says they value and respect their students, but they dont.

I would highly recommend that any child with a behavioral disability Do Not Enroll in Voyager. This school does not have any extra room to accommodate student needs. Instead they use the Vsr Voyager Sucess Room aka Detention room to assign your student yearly. Literally yearly. If your child has ASD and blurts out at lunch they will permanently assign your child to eat lunch in the Detention room. This school has a few great teachers. When I say a few I mean it.
This school was a horrible experience for my child and I am thankful he wont be returning.

The teachers at voyager try really hard to make their students experience here as best as possible which is one of the best parts of going here. The students are respectfully insane. In almost all of my classes students throw and yell and are overall very disruptive. The teachers do the best they can to calm down those kids but it doesnt always work. If your child has sensory issues especially with hearing voyager may not be the best school

My 8th grade son's experience at Voyager has been excellent!
Pros: The teachers and staff obviously take the effort to make sure their students are safe, supported, have every opportunity to learn and be successful. They really care about these kids. He has especially enjoyed ELA, STEM/Tech classes and running track and XC. Writing is NOT something he ever enjoyed but he has really grown and become a good writer with the attention and encouragement of his teachers. His first year of middle school was all on zoom due to the pandemic. His teachers managed it well and he was successful. He actually LIKES middle school and I think that says it all. He has a 504 plan and they have stuck to it. We haven't had any problems there. Meanwhile friends at HP and Kamiak are fighting tooth and nail to get their kid's 504 followed by teachers.
Cons: The location of the school is on a very busy street in one of the worst areas in S. Snohomish County (per police and my dispatcher friends). In 2021 they had maybe 6 lockdowns in 2-3 months due to gun violence/crime in the surrounding area. No issues within the school with that fortunately. The kids have been quick to report any perceived threats they seen or hear of and are taken seriously by administrators and local police. The area has an obvious police presence and I know they try to make sure kids are safe walking in the area.
There are 3 schools on the same block and the fire dept is behind the HS next door.
The other middle schools in the district are in much nicer areas. 2 of the 4 are in neighborhoods full of multi-million dollar homes. The financial and neighborhood support situation in those schools is able to be much better because of the flexibility and privilege of wealthy families supporting their students and the PTA. The Mukikteo school district seems to offers all schools the same or similar budgets but where they need to be spent per each school's need is likely quite different. Voyager MS and Mariner HS get a bad wrap and that's not fair. They are good schools. The neighborhood situations are not their responsibility or within their ability to control. What they can control they do well with.

I love this school and all the teachers are amazing. They grow students to be the best they can be and be good leaders. Parents of our classmates were taught by some of the teachers and remember good things about their time there. Voyager MS is overall such a good school. The administration is all really nice and is good with discipline. I have personally helped out in the kitchen and the office and the music system and the school play, and everyone is so nice and so nice to work with. (they also give great, nice quality plays)

This School has its ups and downs but most teachers are calm and caring about their students, but as a student on multiple occasions I've been asked to fight for no reason and among the many problems the steps program does nothing to the kids except giving them a disadvantage to the other students, then the teachers get mad when they get a D.

I have 2 kids at Voyager, 6th and 8th grade. We can't say enough good things about this school. If your child is headed to Voyager, meet the teachers, meet the staff, meet the counselors. We have been so impressed with everyone. My kids have been involved in several sports and after school clubs. There are several no-cut sports so anyone can be involved. And there are so many great kids at Voyager too.

I love my school, you see I have anxiety and the counselor are understanding. The teachers are kind and care about the the students, and sure it has it downs but all schools do.

I am a student at Voyager, and I have to say it is probably the worst school I've gone to. Some of the teachers are unreasonably rude. The only class I've liked here (besides my 8th grade teachers) is art and ukulele. Fights have been going on at lunch since the beginning of the years and they're just NOW having teachers look out and setting up extra cameras. There's been drugs in lockers and people have gave drugs to kids on school campus. This school is the worst

This has been the worse experience I have ever had for my child. I think they suspend children so they don't have to deal with the problem. The steps program is ridiculous. Putting children in time out at the age of 13 is ridiculous as well. What happen to being stern? The principles are jokes and the assistant principal is completely rude. I've had to call the district office several times.

So there is a story on facebook in regards to a student who attends Voyager Middle School who has been bullied by a girl and this girls friends. The matter was taken to the proper officials but no action was taken to solve this problem. All parents should be very concerned with the actions of these authorities or lack of. Please help protect our kids and voice your concerns to the School board!

Voyager middle school doesn't treat my child well they never tell me what's happening at school my child get bullied by a teacher and kids and the don't even do anything abou it the banned my child for the computer for no reason the banned him for after school activities because the teacher told not to go to the bathroom and it was an emergency so he ran out of the room I mean I'm not saying voyager middle school is bad it's just bad against my child I don't think you should go to voyager middle school

My son has attended this school in grades 6 and 7 and is by far the worst school ever attended. He has gotten a D in math because his organization isn't good enough. His math teacher called me into a conference to tell me he does A+ work but his organization is an F. This same teacher told me in this conference with others present that my son's self esteem was so low she was worried he might do a shooting causing my son to be further upset and walk out. I informed her he has no access to firearms and has been trained with them. I complained to the VP and the councilor about this, and both say she was out of line but nothing they can do about it. Thank god we are moving to Alaska with much better schools.

This school has been taking parent complaints and shoving them under the rug. Teachers openly bully kids in class, accusing them of being on drugs, being gang members, or threatening to not write college recommendations. I've experienced all of this since my 11 year old started in September. Multiple calls to the VP have accomplished nothing. No resolutions reached, no returned phone calls and magically Mr. Bailey is always unavailable when I request to speak directly with him. I've had to turn to the school board for help. A lawsuit is next and quickly approaching as I'm fed up and beyond frustrated with the lack of acknowledgment and involvement from the vp. Kids shouldn't experience this negative bullying from teachers, it's a joke. Dont let your child go here if you can prevent it!!

I have had two sons attend this school one from 2006-2009 and the other one is currently a 7th Grader there. All in all I think the teachers really care alot about the kids. It is easy to reach out to them as well as the counselors. I have a bit of a problem with the STEPS program as my son is mostly well behaved (come on he's a teenager, we all have bad days) But i do get an occasional comment from him that he got put on STEP 1 for talking to another student to help them with a problem or something equally rediculous. Also, some of the teaches do not keep on Aspen which makes it hard to keep up on how my child is doing. The Principal and Vice Principal are very engaged with the students and they have both been there since prior to my oldest son attending. Contrary to popular belief this school is not made up of "thugs, gang members or drug dealers" as someone pointed out in an earlier review. The Classroom "teams" Is a great idea and has worked very well for us. It is a nice transition from Elementary to High School.

After reading the comments about this school, I was utterly disgusted by the responses from parents, who probably haven't even went to see the school. Sure, in the past it may have been somewhat "loose," but I can't say anything because I wasn't there. Now, in 2014, if you secretly saw your child in school, he/she may be a really excellent student! Or, if you really knew how your child acts at school, you will understand why your student is in that situation with Steps. To make fairness with Steps, your student can say Recourse if they were wrongly put on steps. If your child didn't say Recourse, then obviously he/she did something wrong, and they, themselves know too! So, to put this out there, People don't do things without reason. Don't complain about Steps, it is something this school needs. If steps wasn't here, then your child probably wouldn't even thinking about enrolling in this school. Look at your child.Is she or he doing well in school?Is she or he's behavior something you expect?Don't blame the teachers. Blame the parents. They have been the ones with the student for the longest time ever. If you have something against this school, then go there. Walk up to the school.

This is an atrosity of a place to have a child. Bullying is out of control and nothing is being done! My neice comes home in tears everyday and nothing can be done for fear of retaliation against her. I guess the next step is district and school board. Students shouldn't be forced to transfer because of ignorance and lack of integrity.

While the school has many after school programs to keep kids occupied, the general student population is out of control with aggression and misbehavior. The steps program is clearly not working. My child has been spit on, kicked and punched. After reporting these issues,nothing is done because the "accused" student gets to tell their side of the story (like they're going to admit it). The teachers are very open to communications and really do seem to try but the kids are beyond control. The administration seems to be doing the right things with many antibullying speakers and confronting trends like cyberbullying yet my child is in tears having to go there. Considering an out of district transfer.

Listen people I've been going to voyager for 3 months now and this is my first year and I think voyager is awesome the only bad part is the step program I mean seriously your sitting or standing in front of a wall for a few seconds or minutes it's just stupid but other than that it is really great you get to go to boing for the field trip imagine having peeza every day for lunch

My granddaughter went to this school for only a few months. I can't believe the state of Washington allows schools to get so segregrated. This school really needs help.
