No supervision at drop-off and pick up. It's a mess! Today, after walking my kiddo into class--I saw two young boys walk out of the school and wander around the sidewalk. There was no teacher or anyone supervising the outside area or monitoring the door despite some of the drop-offs being small kindergarteners. I took it upon myself to walk them back in and practically had to yell to get the attention of the front desk for help.

Absolutely horrific. Our lives are completely changed after only 6 months at Lydia Hawk. This school is a joke and every staff member needs to be reasigned.

5 stars! All 4 of my kids have attended Lydia Hawk. Because of the high english language learners, it gets a bad rap from test scores. Look at the growth the students have. These are highly dedicated teachers and staff who not only love their job, but want to see the students grow. Go visit, sit in a classroom, before you pass judgement.

Agree but there is more work needed to be done in this area. Such as disciplined a student right on the spot when he or she is done wrong to another student. (Example) Poking another student with a pencil, that should be intermediate address as assault to another student specially when punctured wound is visible.

I feel that student should be praise and encourages to do their best but when student are loud or not listening they should not be punished as a whole class for a few getting way with not behaving. Instead those should be call out and told that they need to comply with the school rules. The Teacher should not make the whole class feel as they all have not followed the rules. Making remark such "YOU GUYS EMBARRASS, ME, I WILL BE ASHAMED TO TAKE YOU GUYS OUT IN PUBLIC" Now that is not nice.

There is one area were this school should improved. For example, during lunch staff should stop blowing the whistle so loud to get the students attention, after all that is their time to eat and try to enjoy their lunch. It should be a little more respect and consideration after all children's hearing are sensitive. I don' t know the decibel from a whistle but is loud.

As a whole the Teachers are good teachers, but in recent years there is being a turn over of Teacher leaving this school.

I will like to say that a school is a good school when Parent/Teachers/ Principal work together for the benefit of the student, Because after all the student is our main goal. To have a student achieved every year during the school year it takes both parties in order to have this accomplish. That meaning to share work done on school with parent or guardian. Encourage the student to practice, do homework.

My 2nd grader loves Lydia Hawk. Its her second year going there. There have been about 16-20 kids in her classes.

Overall is a pretty good school but the principal Mrs. Wheeler is horrible! She is harsh and uncaring. Not nice at all to the kids. It's clear that she sits on her high horse feeling like she is superior to everyone. The school nurse is also rude and uncaring. I have never met a meaner principal in my life. My son has gone here for 2 years now and it's been great all except when he needs to go to the office for something. His teachers have been great and the office staff/receptionists are nice. The cafeteria lines are insane though. If a child is towards the back of the line he/she may only get 2-5 minutes to eat before lunch is over.

My son started here this year after having a bullying issue at a different elementary school. He enjoys this school much more and when he first got there we thought the bullying had started again but we talked with his teachers and the principal and it stopped. We are happy with the school and knowing he is safe is great.

I can't say much about the whole school but I can definitely give a 5 star to Ms Stiaert. I still cannot spell her name but she was a great 2nd grade teacher for my son.

Just finished reading the "stats" on LHE. Although I pulled my children due to the lack of leadership and management of staff and students I can tell you that in the past several years my children attended they NEVER had 16 students in a classroom! There were always at least 25 if not close to 30. Either these stats are just plain wrong or they are counting something other than regular classrooms with regular classroom teachers.

Well, being very familiar with Lydia Hawk elementary school and having gone their myself as a young child. When we moved back to this area and my children started attending school here, I would say that the school seems to have a new enthusiasm and better identity of itself. The children that attend are from a very diverse background and MOST of the staff are very friendly. For the most part I would say this school is going in a great direction and if all teachers could teach like Ms. Rottle all our schools would be doing way better :o)

Although I was pleased with about half of the teachers at this school, the principal is another story. He was not helpful with anything, my son is gifted and Mr. Harrington told me he doesn't have room in his school for my son. So I did what any parent would do, I removed all 3 of my children and went accross town to a better school where they care about their students future.
