As a parent of 2 graduates from River Ridge, I was extremely pleased with their experience at Ridge. They were fully prepared to head off to college, but if their path would have been a vocational school, they would have been ready for that as well. They both had the opportunity to be in leadership positions either through sports or clubs and were active and fully engaged in everything River Ridge had to offer. The teachers and coaches made them want to be at school. They are both living their best lives, one graduated from college and 5e youngest is in her last year. ASB was such a game changer for both of them. If you have a student that wants to make their school an awesome place to be, River Ridge is definitely that school with student leadership there is always an opportunity to shine.

I have attended this school, during this time I found that the students here dread every day because of the environment. This place has some of the worst teachers and office people I have met, I was lucky enough to have a couple teachers to help and support my academics during my education. This school make no accommodations to kids that want to switch there class, if its for educational reasons or if you aren't feeling safe around the people in the learning space. I absolutely do not recommend this school!

RIver Ridge High School has had an unheavel of mediocre teachers and staff leave. From what I can see, its been a lot better experience for the students from the main office staff to specialist teachers. I've worked closely with the College and Career Center (misses Rose) and they have been helpful. The librarians are very kind and the students seem to enjoy activities thrown by them. My daughter is very shy and has had good experiences as a freshman here. Teachers and admin could work harder to relate to the students.

I attended River Ridge High School from 2018-2022. I would say as a general rule, most teachers care about students and try their hardest to promote learning and equality. As for the administration team, they are absolutely horrible. I was having issues in the 2019/20 school year needing protection orders as well as support from administrators due to issues of bullying and harassment by other students. I was not taken seriously and basically told that they did not believe me if I didn’t have physical evidence (which I did and still nothing was done about it). Admin is more worried about controlling their students, saving face, and implementing tyrannical type school rules over real issues such as academic struggle affecting a majority of their students, college readiness, constant violence and physical fights, and the list goes on and on. I was lucky enough to have amazing parents as well as a support system outside of this school to help me prepare for college and figure out what my next step was after graduation. Many students who attend this school cannot say the same and administration does nothing to help. As one of the top 30 in my graduating class, not once was I ever approached or inquired about college, how they can help me in my application process, or asked if I even had a plan. On the opposite spectrum, I had many friends who needed help with those processes and could have greatly benefitted from some type of guidance. I have friends who attended other high schools in the area such as North Thurston, Timberline, Olympia, Capital, etc. All of these resources were provided to them and education and student wellbeing was a main priority. On another note, if you are someone who values athletics, this is the last school I would recommend. Year in and year out almost every single sport has majority losing seasons as well as a lack of good coaching. Surrounding schools seem to value sports much more. Lastly, there were a multitude of shooting threats and lockdowns specifically in my senior year where students would be given absolutely no information and kept in classrooms for hours at a time during lunch periods and not allowed to leave or lunch was never brought until way after the fact..? (When there was not necessarily even a threat ever) I could go on and on but to sum it up, River Ridge High School is a complete JOKE. Go somewhere else and save yourself from the worst four years of your life.

This school doesn't help student exceed, especially if you are a minority . i was a former student at north Thurston high school as a white student that really really tried to get good grades . the classes that i didn't do good in or they areas of my weakness. the staff came to me or call in the office to help me find what classes best fits me and how to help my areas of weakness to succeed so i can graduate . now i have a daughter who is non white goes to river ridge high she's is really really having trouble with her grades but instead of helping her and placing her in classes to reach her potential she's is being labeled as a problem child and they are not offering any support or assistance . sad the boundaries of high schools of mostly white schools verses minorities schools make a difference in the help or should i say lack of help in this field along with stereotyping

Horrible school. The athletics of this school is if your a family that is favored by the coach or a friend then your kids play. Talent dedication, hard work and doing what they say to move up, well that does not work. Parents who have emailed the coach to check in on how their kids are doing get emails back as to say well be better if they just turned in their gear , because they will not play. Kids tell us all the time how they talk down to them and school does nothing for these actions or they stand behind the coach/teacher. It honestly amazes me that the coaching staff has not been replaced because it needs to be and fast. Coach Shultz is horrible and not a decent human either with his degrading of players. Senior nights are supposed to be about the Seniors of the school not the talent levels is their night not yours so get over yourself, because your not a good coach and the kids and parents don't back you or stand you and your staff. If, I could give a 0 star and tell you anything its drive your kids to a better school with better opportunities like Yelm, North Thurston, Olympia and even Timberline. STAY AWAY.

River Ridge really helped my daughter when she was struggling through some classes just after we moved here. They help find solutions that work best for each individual child, it’s not a one size fits all type solution.

We are a military family that moved to the area in summer 2016. We bought a house in what we thought would be NTHS district but the high schools were redistricted and we were assigned to RRHS. I was upset because of the Great School rating and nervous for my high performing freshman. However, RRHS did a great job educating my son this year. He had 3 advanced classes available to him that challenged him to reach farther and do better. The school has a strong positive behavior program to try and reward positive behaviors vs spending all of their time telling the kids what they're doing wrong. My son did band and jazz band. The teacher did a great job keeping the kids engaged all over our community. I have neighbors whose kids played sports at RRHS and they were equally impressed with the athletics at the school. I believe that the fairly large upper middle class area of Lacey that was redistricted into RRHS will have a direct impact on "scores" and that RRHS will start to show higher numbers on sites such as Great Schools. I don't believe the 5/10 that RRHS currently has is an accurate measurement of the quality of education kids receive especially when the kids make an effort to stay engaged academically, and socially.

Diverse pshaw. This school has been known to have the most minority students. Also they haven't improved school grounds since they opened the school. OVER-crowded class rooms. Rude bordering on disgraceful teachers who cannot handle the large classes they attend too. I would say all these positive reviews come from certain students who education was looked after by advisers. If we saw GRADES on teachers i would say we'd see a different review. School starts at 7:20 to save money. Releasing the students earlier for bus reasons. If your hoping for your child to get a good education I would look else where.

I love this school I'm a 9th grade at this school this school gives u alot of freedom witch is what kids need the staff is awesome they talk to u they are cool I just moved here to Washington state from NC I went to south viwe middle and my sisters went to south view high school the education at river ridge high is 1000 times better the svms in NC I haven't noticed any ganges in this school I have a lot of friends the kids are nice some teachers are mean like a coatch for weight lifting he's mean I can't think of his name and the other teacher in room 410 is mean to me he says I have a attetude witch some times I do but if I'm 2 min late to class he emails my parents and says I need a pass but I talked to miss in the same class they say he doesn't care if they r 5 min late so he really does not like me witch is fine with me but in this school all teachers that I have actually teach u stuff and in math room 114 he is the best he helps u with ur problems so if I had to choice to go back to NC or stay here I would deffenty stay here at this school if I could I would rate this school a 9 out of 10 so all the staff good job but I don't like that if u don't have a doctors note saying my nee has a fractur in it then they make me still run or I get a F I can't get a note yet bc my mom and dad is in the army so it took them a while to get me seen and so far I have had 3 appt I have another one soon so I have to ask for a note next time. But I don't u guys care about my nee any ways I live this school its awesome and fun I like how we get out at 2 instead of 330 so if i was u I would go to this school thanks to all the staff love this school :)

This is a "hang out " high school. I don't know how it got a 7 rating- when at the beginning of the 2015-16 it was a five (5). Most teachers and staff are jaded, the academic presentation is substandard, The school is not culturally competent (though they attempt to give the appearance that they are.) The sports program is good, but if you want your child ready for college-I would reconsider this school-. This school is small, unkempt, and over crowded. We are moving out the district because of Thurston County schools. If you are a parent and are concerned about you child's education then this school will be sure to disappoint. The county really needs to consider an overall school improvement plan. This is not the only school in the district that is below average; I have students that attended three others in this district and the consensus is the same about all three- below average and need for improvement.

My son attends River Ridge High School and is having the best high school experience we could have hoped for. We are a military family, but lucky enough to be able to remain on one spot for all 4 years of his high school. He loves the diversity, the teachers, staff and coaches. We are realistic in the knowledge that kids make poor choices at times, but the options and ability for our son to rise to his potential and even exceed it made us choose RRHS vs others in the area. It's smaller, but has all the same accelerated classes as the other schools. The kids joke about how RR gets a bad wrap due to its location. But most of the students embrace the reputation and use it to prove the neigh sayers wrong. We are very please with the education our son is receiving.

i have to children that attend this high school, they have been here for under a year n i have noticed that this school is bias against teen parents. they allow fighting and theats between kids but yet when you hear and witness thier staff verbally abuse students and you report it they do nothin about it and then go after your children with a vengance this is the worst high school in the lacey area.
