When you have multiple kids and have dealt with numerous schools as well as different teachers I think you are more educated in offering a better review. 2022 is my daughters first year here in 2 nd grade as we just moved to orting. Prior she was at Shaw road as well as my other kids and we loved the Puyallup school district as well as Shaw road elementary. Let me tell you how different this school is!!! Staff is rude and unprofessional, safety is basically non existent!

I found all this out when I went to take my daughter a teddy bear and flowers on her birthday.

I pulled up and parked . I had to ask several high school students where the elementary school was , it sits back among the high school and middle school. Very confusing location. Coincidentally when I pulled up my daughter was outside on recess and came running to the fence! I approached her and told her I was there to drop off her gifts! She was so happy. I said I needed to go to the office. She walked to the gate and started to open it before I told her NO , I have to talk with someone first I cant just walk into their playground. Well, after 10 minutes of walking around looking for the office entrance I came to the cafeteria door. There was a woman inside so I approached and to my surprise the door was unlocked! Ya can you believe it?! 2022 and the door wasnt locked. As I went to speak I saw through the glass on the other side of the building my daughter and her teacher standing there waiving at me to come back to my original location. My daughter was correct, that gate is the entrance to the school office!!! Not locked , a simple carabiner in the latch. The teacher said yes you enter here walk 75-100yards through the playground while the kids are right there at recess. At this point you push a button and they buzz you in! At this point I was so surprised at the lack of security measures in place. Down right scary.
Once inside I approached the office window a girl no older than 18 stood there. I introduced myself as my name and my daughters name , with my intention. I set the flowers and bear down. She repeatedly asked me the same questions over and over. Name, Childs name, grade, it was odd.
As Im standing there a new woman walked into the office area, immediately walked over to me , grabbed the small balloon wrapped nicely around the bears neck with a candy bar and reprimanded me that there was no balloons on school property. She than proceeds to tell me they cant have flowers.

Goes back to lack of effective discipline policies

Discipline problems are huge at this school and the leadership is ineffective in handling it. Kids are running wild in the classrooms. The teachers can't handle it and get no support.

Every time I go to this school I am astounded by the ineffective control or modeling of discipline by the administration. I feel that planning for student achievement is week. I feel that special needs are not catered to effectively

Orting Primary School is a great school with lots of amazing staff and caring teachers. They welcome parent involvement, and have many avenues for parents to be connected.
