Let me start with saying that I was very excited to be sending my son to this school for second grade. It was a short walk from home, completely re built . Fresh and inviting.
Through out the year we learned the harsh truth that this school over all was not only unsupprtive, but harmful to my son's emotional well being.
He was being bullied relentlessly in our neighborhood and those same kids were continuing the harassment and physical abuse at school. Everytime a meeting ended I felt good about the plans to resolve this issue , only to find that it would last for about a week and then it was the same thing over again.
It got to the point where I didn't feel my son was safe going to that school. I pulled him out early . Biggest disappointment I've faced with my son's education.
He was so traumatized he didn't even want to play with his friends out front because he was afraid the 5th graders would come over . Yes, fifth graders were bullying a second grader.
All they wanted to talk about near the end was the fact I was keeping him home.
I informed them I would gladly bring my lawyer into court if that's what they felt they needed to do.
I never heard from them again.
Don't choose this school if you have another option.
My son is now moving in with his dad full time so he can be at a different school. I've had him full time since pre K. This has been devastating for me and my entire family . Most of all my son.

We just located to this school district, and I must say this is an overall better school environment for our daughter compared to her prior school (Franklin Pierce school district). My daughter comes home from school with a smile everyday. She is thriving, she loves her new school, she adores her teacher, and enjoys being around her peers. The school staff is very welcoming and informative.

Youngest son's first year at Firgrove has been a positive experience for him. He is flourishing and always comes home excited to tell new things he has learned. Lunches leave much to be desired. Older son had difficulties academically and not much assistance was provided.

I am extremely proud to be a Hawk at Firgrove!!! The teachers and staff truly believe that EVERY child can succeed. The learning that is happening here is unbelievable. Children are encouraged by every staff member. When my grandchild is of age to attend kindergarten, I only hope & pray that she attends Firgrove.

My child's kindergarten teacher is Mrs. Gretchen Saunders. She needed to finish out her teaching in the Tacoma District so my child had Mrs. Medford as a substitute (very sweet and easy to talk to). It was a difficult month for all those involved but I thought Firgrove handled the transition pretty good. Mrs. Saunders is a hardworking, fun teacher. She has helped my child socially and academically. Mr. Mitchell is one of the music teacher's and I hear a lot about how fun music class was. The Librarian and Computer teacher, Mrs. Cox, have also helped provide a great learning place. The recess Duty workers do their best to keep up with so many kids. I think there should be more of them out there. The office manager and front desk staff seem overworked. They really try and put on a smile but I know they have a lot to do. Overall, Firgrove has been a second home to my child. I believe it also takes parents' and community involvement to make a great school.

The 2014-2015 school year is a first for our daughter for she attends Firgrove elementary in Mrs. Stier's Kindergarten class. We have been very plased with the school as a whole. there is an abundance of support from the staff and educators. The teachers care there. We thoroughly enjoy the Movie nights and PTA sponsored events. Keep up the good work Hawks, how could you not with such a great Principal as Mrs. Schroeder backing you every step of the way!

I am a new staff member here this year and was honestly a little apprehensive...My fears were for nothing! I enjoy the staff and the children and have not seen any of the negativity I had been warned about. I am proud to be an addition to this school!

Firgrove is a great place for everyone, it has gone through a remodel to update the flooring and walls. The new teachers this year have hit the ground running and everybody is working together to make Firgrove a place the students love and get all the help they need.

I love Firgrove Elementary School! I have 2 children that currently attend and have been attending for the last 3 years. They have had (and currently have) great teachers who are encouraging, creative and challenging. I have seen noticeable academic growth in both my children these last 3 years. The support staff and office staff are also great to work with and are quite helpful. And the principal has been doing amazing things lately and is a positive and inspiring leader for the school. Recently the building and grounds were given an upgrade as well and it has made a huge difference in the overall environment of the school, both inside and out. I am so glad our children get to go to Firgrove Elementary School - go Hawks!

Firgrove is an amazing school with a great community vibe!!! Teachers and administrators are dedicated to providing the best education possible while building amazing relationships. The teachers take time to get to know families and they involve parents in the child's learning! Proud to be a Firgrove Hawk!

The bad reviews are really old and inaccurate. My son's teacher is wonderful. I'm thankful that she has gotten to know my son so early in the school year and is encouraging him to work beyond his grade level in reading and math. He's not getting bored anymore! The kids go to a computer lab once or twice a week, in addition to music and library. The building was remodeled over the summer (it's still an old building though). Mrs. Schroeder was new to the building last year and the office staff is friendly and helpful.

We have had 6 of our children go through this school during the last 8 years. the teachers are great. the office staff and vice-principal are amazing and very personable. my only complaint is that we have had 4 different principals [each of the previous moved along to promotions]; the current one is doing an outstanding job.
