Experience was very sad. Our teacher decided she could handle our child, bright, inquisitive, child who was struggling with learning to read. Made a target of him. Even brought 4 staff members unannounced to our conference to gang up on a little child. Said her year was going perfectly until he ruined it. Sadly the administration failed in their duty to children. They were running defense between parent and teacher but when we tried to advocate for his right to an education, the principal provided cover for the teacher calling him violent for intentionally (yes, naughty) knocking over a container of safety pins used for crafting. This was fight or flight in a seriously threatening classroom environment. To protect our child, we withdrew from the school. It took months to rebuild confidence after the damaging experience.

Be very careful about your child being crushed by this institution.

This school is amazing. The teachers and administrators are dedicated professionals, committed to the whole child. We started kindergarten this year and the transition was a struggle from a social/emotional standpoint. Coming from preschool, the school feels big. The support we have felt in helping to develop consistent strategies between home and school is above and beyond. I have every bit of confidence my child will be a better human for attending Sherman. The project based learning builds creativity, and complexity by connecting multiple disciplines through learning units. The kids get a lot of extras outside standard state curriculum, helping them to develop love of life long learning, grit, and providing exposure to robotics, engineering, natural sciences. We are so happy with this school. It’s the right fit for our deeply feeling, creative, bright and curious kiddo. The community at this school is strong. There’s an active PTSA with monthly meetings, fundraising events, and fun extras for the kids. Meetings are in the evenings with childcare to support inclusive participation. The school hosts talent shows, carnivals, STEAM Fairs, providing a lot of opportunities for the community to come together around these children. These events are well supported with participation from faculty and parents.

Sherman is such a gem of a school and community. I have two kids who go to school there and am consistently impressed with the quality of the teachers, the emotional-social education that is infused into their learning, and the incredible community. Sherman is a STEAM school (i.e., emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art, and math), they use project-based learning approaches in the classroom, and they have a Maker's Space to create and do art projects. Sherman also has a very active PTSA that puts on a lot of volunteer-run events outside of school (e.g., talent show, night market, fall masquerade ball, carnival). It's not perfect, of course, but there are so many wonderful things about Sherman and my kids absolutely love going to school.

The teachers, staff and parents are involved at a high degree to provide the best educational experience for the children. Everyone you encounter has a deep passion for excellence. It is a fabulous community to be a part of.

Awful!!!!!!! Unless you don't advocate for your special needs child then it's ok.. If you advocate for your child your child becomes the target. The principal is fake and talks behind peoples backs loud enough for parents to hear it.. There are a few extremely flaky teachers in the school that are extremely immature and need to learn to act like adults and write students up for acting like children and not robots like the one teacher that comes to mind thinks they should.. There is one teacher if you stick up for your child that particular individual will center your child out for the rest of the year and nit pick everything they do even if the child has special needs...
