Going here was horrible. The studies were boring, there are no games allowed, you can't stand at lunch, you have to throw away milk in a completely different container, through box material into trash, through food in another thing, and basically separate every molecule of your plate. PE is especially bad considering many go to the nurses after a fitness run, and teachers do not really care at all except for some rare exceptions.

Overall experience in the last two years has been mediocre. Communication (at best) is subpar. Parents are not informed of necessary things (i.e. bus routes being cancelled, happenings within the school) in a timely manner.
The physical education classes are run by faculty who treat the kids like it’s a military camp. The PE department as a whole needs an entire overhaul with faculty that actually cares about the kids.

This school is terrible on many fronts. We were only there for one school year when we removed our son to homeschool him.
The PE faculty is more concerned with socializing amongst themselves as opposed to doing their job. The children are not being properly supervised or interacted with which results in many fights erupting during this period of time.
The overall faculty is quite complacent and does not hold children responsible for their behavior. The language these kids use around faculty is horrendous, yet nothing is done about it. Kids say nasty things to each other and faculty looks the other way. It's no wonder bullying and fighting is an issue.
The leadership at the top is who should be called into question. The principal (Mr. Rood) is more concerned with social constructs than he is ensuring his faculty is actually teaching educational material. He took it upon himself to have pronoun preference videos shown to kids without parental consent or even notifying parents it was going to be shown to their children. He made it clear to me he would do it again. He did this on his own, not being part of curriculum or from the district.
The school and district also displayed no backbone as masks were still and are still used, parents can't volunteer without a vaccination card, covid testing is on campus, and they now offer vaccine clinics.
The kids are suffering. Grades are the worst I had ever seen, entire classes failing, the kids attitudes are terrible and angry, the teachers appear to have all but given up.
The culture at this school is terrible. Teachers (not all) are lazy and display apathy, the principal is too busy worrying about things that are not part of their education or curricilum, and the district cares more about what the government demands as opposed to what kids need.
Since homeschooling my child, his grades have improved dramatically. From C's, D's and F's to A's and B's.
I can only suspect the school has worsened as I've had more parents tell me they removed their children as well.

The teachers and staff are the best. The are building a beautiful new school the kids will be in next spring!

Horrible. Most teachers have not heard of how to grade correctly. Bullying is a huge problem, Problems like literal potention school shooters are brushed to the wayside. All they care about is their image to the public. They do not care if the students are Learning or not. Not only that but now they are blocking everything on the internet that might give them a little bit of personality. Themes, Profiles pictures, ect. They have started blocking plenty of websites that are NEEDED to learn like youtube that could help the students learn. If your thinking of moving here for the school let me make that choice for you. Run while you still can.

They may have a class for leadership but it doesn't teach true leadership. They don't give you the choices a leader would have to make. All they do is make you do projects like making posters.

How can you be told that this new year your student will do much better in school even know he didn't even make a 1.0 grade average in 7th Grade. We as Parents wanted the school to hold him back until he learns and understand 7th grade work before advancing him into the 8th grade. We were told today that they had a teacher problem last year and now that there are new counselors everything is going to be better. So are they saying the Teachers are at fault for the Children not getting good grades. Or was it a fault of Yelm Middle School Staff which includes the Principle for children failing school. I don't like getting a run around and watch my child fail 8th grade because he has no idea what he is doing. And the Staff just blames someone else for their lack of Teaching. If they have such a problem why don't they hire more staff to handle the amount of students there. I am tired of hearing excuses and getting the run around just to watch my child not learn a thing through the whole school year just because all the the Office Staff has to place blame on the Teachers and not take any responsibility for their actions. This is a higher School Board and Principle problem that need to be fixed. Especially if they Have students who can't even make a 2.0 Grade average. And never tell the parents anything till the grades come out. If my son was a constant talker in class why was he not moved away from the person or persons that he was talking with. This is something only the School can handle. I can tell him to quit talking till I am blue in the face but if you think that works your wrong. Its the job of the School to make sure the seating arrangement on students are in the best interest of the students to learn and not ignore what the teacher is talking about.

We came here from out of state and I was highly disappointed in the previous school disctrict we were with -- so much so that I was homeschooling my special needs daughter. Upon coming to WA I was more than thrilled and delighted with the child-centered approach. I met with our daughter's guidance counselor prior to enrollment and we all made certain that our daughter was set up for succcess from the moment she walked through the door. I have never been disappointed in the time she's spent there. Thank you!!!
