Small class sizes, dedicated teachers and parent involvement allow OHCS to offer a premium experience and education for our child. The teachers are there because it is their calling and the children are expected to have manners and learn (while still being able to enjoy being a kid). If you value small class sizes and knowing your children are being taught to the highest levels of academic's with the loving hand of God, this school is worth considering.
It is my opinion that almost all private schools bear some benefit vs public because when a parent is paying for their children's education, they tend to be much more involved in said education. When the parents are more involved, the children tend to benefit both at home and at school.

I have been very pleased and happy with the elementary school teachers at this school. They are well structured and organized, use updated curriculum, and have great personnel in the office, Ms. Sharon is the best! The teachers my daughter have had so far are highly educated and maintain great communication with parents! The principal is very professional, accessible and kind with students and parents. They also have amazing family activities very often.

The staff freely give extra time and attention to those experiencing difficulties learning subjects.

The culture of the school discourages bullying through small class sizes and active character growth. In addition, the older students are taught and encouraged to mentor younger students.

Our experience at OHCS has been extremely positive. Our children have enjoyed their time there a great deal, and the staff have reacted positively to them and vice versa. We'll continue to be part of the Oak Harbor Christian School family until we leave the area.

Smaller class sizes means education plans are more tailored to individual students. I like that our children can pray and pledge allegiance without fear of the repercussion that has sadly plagued our public school system.

I have had two children go from preschool up through 8th grade. I cannot express how much this school molded them into the amazing human beings they are today. Both children were given a strong foundation in God's word and have character that this world rarely sees. This school cares about the whole child; academics and spiritual responsibility are taught in everything they do.

Great school. Very caring teachers and office staff. Had my daughter in public school for a few years then transferred to the Christian school. Saw a significant change in her attitude (more respectful) and level of educational progress was and is set at a higher standard than public school. Love that my kids are exposed to a Christian environment through prayer time in class, and praise and worship once a week.

This school is the BEST! Awesome teachers and staff. Academics are top notch. I would recommend this school to anyone

I cannot imagine my children being in a better school. It is the perfect balance of academics and social development. Teachers are highly involved and dedicated, and the principal treats each child like her own. A wonderful atmosphere for students and parents.

Oak Harbor Christian does a superb job when it comes to character development and personal responsibility. I am very impressed with the way that the students are taught honesty, integrity and fairness.

The teachers are amazing!!! They are the foundation and set the tone for each and every day. Again, my sons ability to grasp new concepts has grown by leaps and bounds. I attribute that to the wonderful teachers that give their very best everyday.

I have a preschool aged child, and we do not have homework at this age.

This school is wonderfully transparent. Anything you want or need to know, they will answer honestly. I have one incident with my son and another student, and it was handled professionally, with care and compassion. Everyone was accountable, and it was handled and done before we left for the day. As a parent, I couldn't have asked for a better resolution.

When looking for a pre-school for our son, we explored MANY options. My two requirements were, 1) an actual school with, a campus. I was not interested in a daycare/preschool. And 2) a school that supports our faith. What better foundation to start your little ones off then education, family, and faith. We are thrilled! I highly recommend anyone looking for a wonderful school, filled with amazing kids, come and check out OHCS! What a blessing for Oak Harbor to have this school as a light in our community!

Great school! Teachers and staff care about each student. The academics are excellent, my children learned concepts in math and computers that even the public high school did not teach. The Christ-centered education taught them the morals and values that seem to be lost in our society today. I would highly recommend this school to all families of believers in Christ. "We need to teach our children to love Christ, or the world will teach them not to."

OHCS needs major improvement with bigotry, ignorance, leadership, and diversity awareness. When issues arise, principal sweeps it under the rug in hopes of disappearance. The teachers are friends with certain students only, therefore, those students with that preference do "no wrong." When issues about racial bullying come to the forefront, "kids will be kids" was the response. Don't waste your money on this school. Spend it to move your family to Anacortes for public education.

Fantastic school, with AMAZING Teachers, Staff and Principal!! Oak Harbor Christian provides a very loving and warm learning environment for every child. The teachers know the students and treat them with dignity and respect. As a parent, it is important for me to know who is teaching my child, and who other parents and children are. At Oak Harbor Christian, it is a family environment and there is ample opportunity to get to know everyone. Also, volunteering is encouraged and welcomed! My child attended the 'best' local public school in Oak Harbor, and I was overwhelmed with the callousness of the teachers and staff, lack of concern for the children's safety and well being mental and physical) , also this public school was concerned ONLY with common core academic achievements. As long as we are living in Oak Harbor my 3 children will attend here!

Oak Harbor Christian School needs some serious reform - this is reflected by the drop in enrollment. I witnessed bigoted behavior of a teacher telling racial jokes in front of one of the few black students. Although I was thrilled by the quality of my child's second grade teachers, not all teachers are credentialed. The principal lacks the necessary skills to make the school truly great. He is to busy trying to be buddy buddy with the students versus spending time creating a fine institution. Truly a disappointing experience - keep searching if you're looking for a top notch Christian education.

By far, the best education in the community. I have lived in more than a dozen states, and I have rarely seen the level of care and dedication resident in the staff and faculty of this school. I am a stingy reviewer, but feel comfortable with a five star review. I encourage prospective parents to compare test scores and to visit the school. Well worth the financial investment in the lives of your children.

My oldest child attended OHCS from kindergarten through 2nd grade and would have continued, but we were transferred out of the area. When we found out that we were being transferred back to Oak Harbor a couple years ago after a seven year absence, we immediately enrolled our other child in the middle school. We have been just as pleased with the school over the last couple years as we were the first time. Being a small school, students can get a lot of individualized attention from teachers. The teachers are passionate about their jobs, and their enthusiasm creates a very positive environment. In addition to the great environment, I feel that the education is superior to the local schools, preparing the kids exceptionally well to enter the local high school (because, sadly, OHCS does not have a high school). Great environment, great education, my only wish is that it be a little bigger for greater social interaction.

Mixing higher grades with lower grades. Great for the lower students, handicaps higher level students example Kinderfirst instesd of a kindergarden and first grade Teacher took things to personally, lacked professionalism from Teacher yelling at parents in hallways in front of other parents to classroom favortism. Ignoring parent requests to not sit child next to bully who distracts him during class on multiple occassions Principle allows and excuses bullying. We dealt with this for 2 years Parent involvement seems shunned. you have to schedule an appointment tue through thurs only to observe classroom of your child approved by the teacher

I sent both my children to this school from K-5th grade. I was so pleased that they received not only a solid academic foundation, but a strong understanding of God's word. The teachers not only taught the Bible, but they modeled Christ like character and prayed with and for the students. The small school size did not limit opportunities, but rather offered unique experiences such as a 5th grade class trip and quality field trips. They both also participated in music programs and had excellent instruction in art. I would definitely recommend checking out Oak Harbor Christian School.

i have had our kids attending this school since preschool. they are now in 4th & 2nd grade. the classes are small, which can be tough in certain social situations, but it also means, to me, that the kids are getting the attention they need to excel. the teachers we have had have been wonderfully kind, though firm, & gently encouraging. one of the benefits to a small school is that the staff is familiar with the families attending the school, and the kids are familiar with them as well. it feels very safe, and i like knowing that the staff supports us in our endeavors to raise the kids in a Christian manner. there is no hot lunch program, but there are various fundraisers throughout the year that then provide a hot lunch on one or two days a week. they have art & p.e. programs, though once a week. they also receive some computer instruction, again, once a week. there is a school library they visit once a week as well. we love this school, & plan to keep our kids there as long as we can afford to, until they reach high school. they receive great foundations in math, English, & reading. the last few valedictorians from the public high school have been former OHCS students.

Pros: -Small class size (10-12 kids) -Weekly school gathering Cons: -Weak administration; slow to respond & not open to change -No hot lunch program -Weak PE program (PE once a week, if that) -Each yr PE & Art are on the chopping block -No programs avail to help those kids who are struggling -80% + of staff lack teaching degrees -Weak PC program -Like any school public or private some teachers are better than others
