We are new to Sound Christian this year and have had nothing but positive experiences thus far. Great communication throughout the admissions process, they answered any and all questions and concerns, they are very organized, and our daughter’s teacher clearly loves being here! Every activity we attend makes us grateful we moved our girls here from public school, the opportunities to thrive are endless. We have loved the smaller class sizes, less time on computers, art, chapel, and regular family activities. The staff truly cares not just about the student’s education, but more importantly their hearts and their love and knowledge of Jesus.

This School shouldn't be listed as a great school. They don't care about the student's education, they just care about the money that they receive from the parents. I did a calculation of how much money the CEO representatives make and they make millions off of these parents. The CEO representatives are millionaires. I placed my son here and they gave him a difficult time towards the middle of the school year. He was doing well but all of a sudden they began to accelerate what they were teaching him. They were teaching from different sources. I've homeschooled him before and he did well. Why can't they just stick to one source? Its a snobbish place. They want to be # 1 and not care for the student's education. The school is overly accelerated and they think that public schools don't have academies. Well the public schools in Florida have public school academies, which I've attended one of them in High School and graduated from. They look down on public schools. If the public schools in Washington state was not messed up by the Democratic Left Party, then I would've placed my son in a public school. It's like with all that society is doing in these Blue states, you would think these Christian schools would help your child out, but this so called Christian school has failed my son. Where is their love for God? They don't seem like they have a love for God. I do not recommend this school at all to anyone. You'll waste your time and money.

Very negative. Hypocritical atmosphere, extremely judgemental and judicial. Youre not a good christian male if you have long hair and if youre a girl pants are satanic.

The teachers at TBS are truly committed to these kids. The teachers are knowledgeable about their respective subjects and are challenging the students to not only do well academically, but also become better disciples of Christ.

The current leadership is drastically different from the leadership of the past. They are engaged with the kids on a daily basis, have a true love for TBS, and are looking to the Lord for the direction TBS should be going.

TBS has a special quality. Teachers are dedicated, high quality, and Christ-centered. The improvements over the summer look great. The new school year has a great deal of positive atmosphere. Things could not have started better. We are very happy to have our kids at TBS.

We have been sending our kids to this school for 10 years. The faculty listen when there are concerns, act quickly to right any wrongs (which are very far and few between!), and to make sure that we are kept aware of all goings on at the school if our kids are involved.

We had a great experience with the teachers at TBS. Teachers have been excellent at communication, have genuinely cared about our kids, and are experts in their fields. One teacher tended to get behind on grades, but the rest have all been excellent.

TBS provides an excellent learning atmosphere with small class sizes that provide one-on-one attention and a solid Christian focus. Academics are well emphasized and the school offers a good variety of extracurricular options and community building events. It is a place where the kids are safe.

Parent review

I love this school for my kids, and have another child heading there in the Fall! The teachers and staff show love and respect to each student. My kids love it there and I'm so grateful to have a place that teaches Biblical truth a well as strong academics!! TBS has a great future ahead being led by godly men and women who seek Christ first in all they say and do!

I love TBS! My kids have been there for many years and I will continue to sacrifice to have them there. They deal w/the whole child and provide a positive atmosphere. I noticed someone has been posting some pretty harsh accusations through this format, and it seems to be the same person or family as the dates are similar. My advise, follow Matthew 18 and go to the school w/your perceived notions, that's how changes happens...not using this format as a way to vent or discredit a school that's been ministering to children for over 50 years and has a great reputation in the community. I'm guessing if you did that, you'd get the truth about the situation your student/grandchild was involved in.

A child was seriously hurt at school, the parents were NOT notified! There was NO medically attention done, and documented bruises and harm.

As a concerned family member, I have observed undue disciple of specific children while others are not disciplined nor spoken to about accountability, the ones being bullied get in school suspension, written up, documented bruises, but the culprits are not disciplined. This is abuse and neglect on certain teachers part and no accountability is held to the specific teachers involved. I am appalled that on lookers are watching this being done, Christian or not, and judging actions of religious school by the lack of consistency. Does it take a child being seriously injured, both mentally, physically, psychologically, and spiritually in order for actions to be taken? Christian or not, I would never allow any of my family members children to be apart of a school organization that does not hold every teacher, parent, administrator, and children at the highest degree of accountability.

As a concerned grandparent of an elementary aged child from TBS I am appalled at the discriminatory discipline that occurs. As a believer and an advocate for well established Christian education it saddens my heart to see that bias and privilege have been in the forefront. What has happened with displaying Godly intentions and loving each child unconditionally. If you do not have a perfect child I would not recommend TBS, our children should not be expected to fit the cookie cutter expectation.

We have been with New Hope since PK and then on to TBS Jr High and High School. 3 more years left and we are staying because they are committed to putting God first on all levels. Change is hard, but we ask for forgiveness, forgive, and move on trying to live for our King. Responsible accountable students. We are excited how God will impact South Sound Christian Schools the next 3 years.

We highly recommend TBS. Our child has been at TBS for 4 years. Having our child attend TBS has been one of the best decisions we've made as parents. While it is true that TBS had a tough year last year, I am excited that God is working on repairing relationships and spiritual growth of parents, staff, and students. We're excited about the new year, and new faces. We are trusting God that he will bring the staff that He wants to TBS and the families that He wants to TBS. We pray a special blessing on the staff, students, parents, and coaches that are not returning to TBS in the Fall. We also trust God to place them where He wants them, and we are thankful that they were a blessing to our family over the past 4 years.

While the post below is lengthy, what it doesn't say is that at least 50% of the faculty and staff have left due to the boards actions. The board has also not paid the faculty and staff their salaries as the district has no money. The faculty and staff have been promised these past wages at a future date. This district has no money, I would look elsewhere.

Late spring some teachers requested a review of actions taken by the board toward improving school growth. The board agreed to an outside review and committed to follow through on whatever was suggested..They subsequently did so by making changes advised from review.The board published pertinent information and held a number of meetings for parsing information and giving opportunity for comment from parents and faculty throughout the process. The actions under review were made to strengthen and improve enrollment/finances which were challenged in recent years. Response to faculty concerns/request of the review was exemplary, board members were gracious under scrutiny. They responded well to expressed concerns. Many parents within the TBS community recognize the importance of oversight for long term stability in order to serve students needs with excellence. Teachers moving on are wished well. Current TBS families, teachers (and new ones coming on board), staff and board members remain committed to providing a great education for current and future students.

This school WAS a great school until the board chairman took control of the school. Due to his leadership teachers, staff and families are leaving. He has let quality people go and uses his marketing guy to run interference for him. I would look at other schools.

I have two children currently in this school. My children love going to school and they love learning and this can be attributed to a great curriculum and great, attentive and caring teachers. Small classroom sizes mean great teacher-student interactions and relationships. The environment is encouraging, with classmates praying for each other, teachers praying for students, etc. It is very much like a close-knit family, with high school students volunteering in the elementary classrooms, etc. In addition to the strong curriculum, our children have been learning how to interact in a community (learning how to care for each other, to take responsibility and take action). In addition to the regular classes, the school offers great extra-curricular opportunities - sports, clubs, classes. The school facilities need some improvement but the school is making some improvements in this area. Tuition is very affordable, with discounts for multiple children. Before and after school care makes this doable for working families like ours. We are very fortunate to have had our kids enrolled at TBS for several years, starting with Pre-K.

Tacoma Baptist offers a friendly, family-oriented, safe environment for children Pre-K - 12. The teachers are invested and show compassion and care to the students. Our kids love attending TBS and we feel fortunate to be able to send them there. The school focuses on discipleship and unity. My friends who have children who have graduated from TBS say their student was well prepared for college.

I totally agree with the last review. My children were going to New Hope for 8 years then to TBS 1 year now. (cause new hope doesn't have a jr high campus) I can say that New Hope is a more family environment, better education. My son was bullied last year at TBS and I called and emailed several times about it. Come to find out the bully has been going to TBS for a long time and has a history of bullying and is favored by the school. This kid never got in trouble nor suspended, at the end of the year awards ceremony he even received a spiritual award and stuff REALLY!. I was upset. Academics is lower than other schools. Last school year my daughter told me about all her classmates (at least 10) pulled from TBS during the year and these were kids she has known for over 5 years. You can tell the school is in financial need by the way the cut back on things. I would like to see the school go to uniforms, most private schools wear uniforms. My children do love it but want to go back to New Hope. If I could afford another school I would. Hopefully our second year is better if not I will be looking for a new place. ;(

I've had a student in elementary TBS for 3 yrs now. It started great and I was very happy. I no longer feel this way. While the academics and Christian value are much better than the public schools, the school seems to be run by which ever parent has the most time to spend there. The children of these parents are becoming the chosen ones for any and all events. The paid administration is turning a blind eye to bullying, unless it involves specific children. The only complaint I have about the academics is that is seems to be a repeat of the same stuff each year. There needs to be strong leadership and this school seriously lacks it.

Our family has been a part of TBS for thirteen years with three kids attending over the years. We have appreciated the Christian education and the spiritual growth, and the sports programs provided. The example of Christ in the lives of teachers and staff has been so powerful. I was also very glad that the school has an instructional support program which addresses learning struggles. My children have felt included and valued here. I am so thankful for this school in our area.

I recommend Tacoma Baptist Schools, If you are looking for a school that truly teaches a bible based education, you need to visit TBS. My kids attended another Christian School prior to TBS, and I have found the biblical teaching is priority at TBS. Great teachers, coaches, and staff. Very reasonable tuition cost, priceless biblical education. Parent

I have recently enrolled my son in the Elementary School. He loves going to school on a daily basis. Even more so then in his past school. The teacher and office have been great in how they communicate with us as parents. We have taken advantage of the before and after school care program and it has been very beneficial as we balance our busy schedules.

Agree with most recent posts. The school is changing, not positive. The drop in numbers is telling...especially troubling is exit of long-time families. Kids sportsmanship at athletic events rated -25 for this school year. Really? So many kids in sports and such a review is too bad.

This school now having a tough go. The admin is disorganized and slow with communication. Academics are weaker in some areas(half of the kids in science ap course dropped out). Enrollment down. Not recommended at this time.
