It all looks great on paper. Small private school, non religious. Catering to neurodiverse children.
Unfortunately, the catering to neurodiverse students is grossly exaggerated. As far as i can tell, the staff had no training whatsoever in differentiating instruction or helping neurodiverse students.
Communication is a joke. Teachers don't email you back and the head of school will say anything to make things right without any actual follow through.
Honestly, I think the school hides information so parents don't get upset. They went too far when they didn't call me about an injury to my child that resulted in an ER visit shortly after pickup.
The teaching practices seem archaic. I really regret sending my child here. I'm worried he will be very behind at the public school next year.

My 4th grade son in his fourth year out Soundview and we couldn't be happier with his placement. We have had many unusual circumstances outside of school during our time at Soundview and the staff has gone above and beyond to support my son. He feels safe, loved, respected and nurtured. The social-emotional support my son has received has far exceeded my hopes and expectations. My first son went to our local public school and the differences are striking, making me wish I could turn back time and send him to Soundview instead of our local school. My son almost never frets or worries about schoolwork or challenges because he knows that whatever he does will be accepted and supported and that he can always ask for and receive loving help. I would not hesitate to recommend Soundview school to anyone who is looking for a place for their child to feel a sense of belonging and community.

I have a thriving 5th grader at Soundview who: gets excited about his schoolwork; reaches out to teachers proactively for help understanding assignment goals/grading rubrics; self-advocates for support at school and at home; prides himself on his conflict resolution and leadership skills; considers himself a writer, artist, math geek and history buff who also loves geography; and feels 100% supported by his classmates and teachers. If you are the type of parent who is willing to trust the IB curriculum, staff, and parent community to create an environment where your kids will learn how to fuel their own passion/curiosity and feel empowered to overcome the many setbacks of an imperfect world, then this is your place.

We have two students enrolled in Soundview's Middle Years Program who are happy, engaged learners. Our family has been so impressed with the IB curriculum, which is designed to build critical thinking skills by focusing on ten foundational learning traits, and all of the faculty, who are all very knowledgeable, very skilled educators. Assignments and assessments are often project-based and interdisciplinary, which gives the students opportunities to think about the content in an applied manner. We also love the safe, welcoming community Soundview offers, which has been particularly important for middle-school's social-emotional challenges. One example of this is Soundview's Skills Collaborative program, which provides individualized support for students with learning differences. It is such a valuable, unique asset for neurodiverse learners.

My daughter is in fifth grade and has been at Soundview since Kindergarten. There has not been a single day that she is not excited to go to school and I think that's really amazing! Soundview is very welcoming and inclusive and my daughter feels so valued as a member of the community. We love their emphasis on inquiry and how they encourage the students to ask lots of questions and to engage with their learning in unique ways. My daughter has learned so much socially and emotionally, too. Soundview really educates students as whole people. I love that I can reach out to staff or teachers and get a quick reply and that there are so many opportunities for parent engagement (without it being a requirement!). Soundview also has an incredible music program. Highly recommend!

We selected Soundview based on it being one of the few non-religious private schools in our area. We've been pleased with the level of family involvement and sense of community there. Educationally it seems about equally challenging to public school, but with a much higher educator-to-student ratio.

Last fall was our daughters first year in school, and we all are so happy with our choice of attending Soundview School. I wanted my girl to be around kindness and fun. Soundview was that plus somewhere she learned to think new thoughts and build confidence. I am so impressed with my daughter’s growth. We are excited for this coming fall! This school also offers an incredible amount of community connection opportunities and that has been amazing. Especially as a first time mom. Everyone is so welcoming.

We have 2 kids at this school in elementary level and love it. We get a lot of communication from teachers (including the specialists like the music and Spanish teachers). The administrators here are also very engaged with parents and the community. Most importantly, the teachers are happy and very good with students. My kids are substantively challenged and are encouraged to be leaders and ask questions.

I have three kids at Soundview and we love it. One of my kids was on an IEP and Soundview was able to help us find support through the public school system. Through COVID, I was so grateful to have the Soundview community. The administration learned quickly about COVID recommendations and made the school a safe place to attend and learn (all while juggling virtual school). I would recommend this school to anyone with school-age kids.

Soundview has been a godsend for my family. Our children are thriving here in both the PYP and MYP programs. Because of the academic rigor of IB programs, I know their education is on track and supersedes that of most schools. It's the community component of the school that truly sets Soundview apart. From the very first time we stepped foot on campus, students welcomed us from a variety of grades with openness and warmth that is fully attributed to the faculty and staff. The parent involvement is as much or as little as you want it to be. They kick off the year with Dolphin Day - a day to meet your teacher and explore your school. They also do an event called Booling (bowling in costumes) around Halloween that is a community favorite. The students are so engaged at Soundview, both in their learning and in their friendships and community. Faculty and staff filter every decision and interaction through the lens of ethical, rigorous, and compassionate intentionality. This is so very evident when you speak with them and really hear how they formulate everything from the curriculum to the recess rodeo (an event that includes teaching students how to treat the neighbors surrounding the playground with respect) to the problem solving that happens on a daily basis. Instead of reacting and retaliating to situations that come up, they invite students in to seek solutions to problems that may arise. Our kids have been to a variety of schools over the years. Soundview is far, far and above anything we've ever seen before. We truly feel lucky to have found this little gem in Lynnwood.

I have a child in the Early Childhood program at Soundview and every day I am blown away by what they do in that classroom – from free expression and creativity to daily journaling with their own drawings and thoughts to guided exploration of specific topics, and more. I think what stands out most, though, is the genuine value placed on the kids and their ideas. I know this is true from the class discussions my son talks about, the kids’ thoughts quoted on the boards throughout the classroom, and the interactions I witness between the teachers and the kids. I cannot imagine a better place for my son to express himself while learning cooperation, empathy, and the academics necessary for kindergarten-readiness.

We have been at Soundview for several years. The education has been excellent for our children. The teachers and administration care about the students and provide them an environment that encourages individual thinking with respect for other perspectives. We have two children with very different needs. Soundview has always been able to take their individuality and provide them the best possible opportunities to learn. While there are specific measures for the IB program, the school and the teachers in particular are given creative room to address each individual class as it comes through. Because of this, I feel they are able to (and do) adapt to the nuances of the classes they teach. It also allows them to seek out the passion of the students. The teachers are also very willing to work with students and parents who may need a little extra communication or guidance through difficult challenges.

I was really excited to have my child in this school, from the tour and the visits we couldn't have been happier. Sadly we were disappointed. The teaching is below average. The way the teachers teach is ineffective and dated. They tout using positive discipline but yell regularly. The tuition is a lot and consistently on the rise and for the families lucky enough to be their on scholarship, well it feels like they should just sit back and be grateful for what they get. Our child is going to be attending public school next year, and is not educationally ready, and by the way the teachers teach, I doubt the rest of the class will be ready either. This school does not foster creativity, it attempts to mold it. If you want to spend a lot of money to send your child to a school where they bring home lots of cute projects for the refrigerator then maybe this is the school for you.

I used to love this school. I was, and still am, amazed by the music and art programs. The teachers that I've had direct contact with are amazing but the academics are average. And unfortunately over the years it's gotten a bit lost with its heart. The financial aid program has suffered, so now there is a distinct feel of "haves" and "those lucky to hang out with the haves." Rather off-putting and sad. I think they could get their passion back but it will take work. I'm not willing to stick around to see if it does though.

My son has been at Soundview School since Pre-School. He s always loved it, and now in 6th grade, he s thriving. The International Baccalaureate program is rigorous and stimulating. The Math teacher explores fascinating areas of mathematics, but also drills in the basics. The Humanities, Science, and Language teachers are also excellent, and it s clear that they love what they do, and also love the academic freedom that the Soundview environment encourages. I also hear stories from parents of graduates or transferred students, all attributing their children s success in other schools to the excellent preparation they received at Soundview. I strongly recommend that any family looking for a safe, rigorous, and enjoyable academic environment for their child should look into Soundview School.

My experience at this school has been great. The caring environment is ideal for students who flourish in a medium size school (currently at about 130 students). The head of School has been great at implementing small institutional steps since he stepped into the role. The entire staff is open to feedback which I find way comforting!!! My kids are flourishing at this school - I like that "diversity" is a key part of their values and the mission statement.

Our child has been enrolled at Soundview for four years, and LOVES going to school each day. Each year our experience with the school has been terrific. Since the change in administration 12 months ago, the school has become even better. It is evident that the teachers are all working together even more closely, with learning integrated across the curriculum. For example, when a 2nd grade class was doing a social studies unit on housing around the world, they also created a climate-specific dwelling in art, studied the geometry & engineering of an igloo in math, learn household vocabulary in Spanish, and learned a song about how everyone needs a home in music.. We are delighted that the person who was the interim head of school in 2013 has become the permanent head of school: he is fantastic, and he has the enthusiastic support of teachers and parents.. As a university professor, I can't imagine a better K-8 foundation for learning than what Soundview provides through its values-based International Baccalaureate program, excellent and rigorous approach to math and science, and the integration of visual and performing arts at every level of the curriculum.

We have been at Soundview for 4 years. My children love school. The teachers are amazing both in terms of teaching quality and commitment. The curriculum is challenging, particularly in math and science. Music and art are an integral part of the curriculum just like the old days! The kids at Soundview are enthusiastic, intellectually curious and well, happy. Soundview is building leaders who will have the confidence and academic preparation to tackle their goals.

The school has been undergoing a lot of change lately. To be honest, our family feels that changing the head of school was the right move at the right time for the growth of the school. The former head of school was full of great ideas, but didn t have the skills to move out of the entrepreneurial, seat-of-the-pants approach to a more structured, well-thought-out approach. The interim head of school has the training necessary and the determination to help Soundview continue to grow as a school. He also appears to have a highly supportive staff helping him in this transition. In spite of the mid-year head change, the school has not changed its mission. It is still offering a well-rounded education with a fantastic teaching staff and administrators who care. From what I ve heard, reenrollment is reaching record levels, which shows that most families are putting faith in the school over the next year as it transitions. We are thrilled to have our children at the school and look forward to seeing them graduate from Soundview one day.

Never before have I heard her so excited and passonaite about school. she is egarly awaiting there decsion on weather or not she will be accecpted. we are keeping our fingers crossed. Head and founder of school let go by school board for poor enrollment numbers over last one year (really???) and the chairman of the board who has no affiliation with the school plus has never been seen around the school suddenly appears out of nowhere and is making all the decisions. Parents like me and most others I have talked to are very displeased and are not re-enrolling. Teachers are very poorly qualified, one of the first grade aid is now the class teacher. Complete lack of direction in the new management. Beware of elementary school head. Interim head is LEARNING how to run the school. Do you really want to send your child to a school where the teachers and administration themselves are in the learning mode? Guess if I want to spend the money, I would like some experienced teachers and not some newbies. I am really surprised why their aren't more reviews depicting the real picture, I am just writing to help out, if I would have seen something like this posted, I would have not let my child attend this school.

Change in management in middle of year 2013 - head director, founder let go by board of directors. Brand new math teacher in 2012-13 year and only lectures in classroom - does not know how to do differentiated teaching even though the classroom is very small. Math is taught sometimes by this teacher and at other times by the science teacher. Math is a weak link in this school.

My daughter was enrolled in an independent school in Seattle when we decided to relocate to Lynnwood. Our school's admissions director turned me onto Soundview School, which I had never heard of. She recommended it as her premier choice for an independent school in Snohomish County. Five years later, not only my daughter, but her three younger siblings are all happy Soundview students. It is a young school compared to its Seattle-based counterparts, but that is precisely what makes it such an exciting community to be a part of. The IB curriculum is challenging and innovative and my kids (aged 3 to 9) are all highly engaged. It's so nice to pick my kids up from school and consistently hear that they had a great day and love being there. Kids are by far the best critics. Not only is Soundview a fit for my kids, but it is an equal fit for my husband and I. It was of primary importance for us to find a school that we felt comfortable in, and a staff and parent base that were friendly and shared our common goals. We have found all of this in Soundview.

I am in my 17th year of teaching, and my second year at Soundview, and I can say that this school is unlike any of the other schools in which I have had the good fortune to teach. Soundview's curricular focus of encouraging student inquiry and the practical application of knowledge makes for an exciting learning, and teaching, environment. After learning the IB framework, I wouldn't want to teach anywhere else. And I love my clever, inquisitive, risk-taking students.

Beware: The head of this school is DISHONEST. With dishonest leadership, one can only imagine how easily important facets of a school can fall by the wayside. The head of school has never been an educator, nor does she have a degree in education. There is a reason this school has not been accredited as a WA state Independent school and is a World IB Candidate school, yet has not been approved as an official IB school. The school claims to employ only certificated teachers, but look closely and you'll find the head of school will overlook even that small detail when hiring on a small budget. The school is run like a business, one that is a sinking ship. A few loyal parents and some wonderful teachers are the only things keeping this school afloat. The school aims to be a 21st century school, buying up new technology that doesn't end up being used by students, because there is no plan for use of that technology. The leadership at the school concerns itself with constantly trying new things without ever mastering anything. Teachers are underpaid (compared to other local private & public schools) and under appreciated. Turnover is high at this school - both for teachers and students.

I am amazed and very pleased to witness my child blossoming in the IB environment at Soundview. The thing I notice the most is that my child just loves to go to school. Even on days he is sick, he still don't want to miss his classes. What ever that IB program is, it is certainly very good at maximizing efficiency in learning during regular class time. My child seems to find learning in the IB environment very engaging and rewarding. It certainly helps us parents to not have to spend much time at home to supplement the education.

Soundview School is an excellent school. The IB program helps students to develop life long skills as well as deeper meaning of the subject matters. The IB program is an inquiry driven curriculum. It is amazing to see their wonder wall with 8 questions such as form, function, causation, connection, perspectives, responsibility, refection etc. The student generated questions are so insightful. Soundsview's arts program is phenomenal. All the kids are taking visual art, music and Spanish. The arts are integrated with their IB unit themes. The class size is small so each student receives very good care from the teacher. The school emphasizes the innovation, creativity, hands on projects through critical thinking framework. Soundview Middle School is an ultimate middle school for intelligent and creative students. Soundview School uses Singapore math program with hands on projects. The science lab is a real lab and the students have 5-6 periods a week. They also are taught engineering and computer programming. SoThis is the only school implementing the IB program for K-8. My kids love the school! Excellent jazz and concert band! Every kid from 5-8th graders is in band.

The fact that my daughter's school has so many reviews posted shows that families, teachers, etc, truly care about this extraordinary school and its dynamic curriculum and faculty. By the way, Soundview charges standard fees that ALL private schools charge and are indeed listed on the tuition form.

Chalk it up to disgruntled employees, I like that, it's always easier to point the finger and blame than take a good comprehensive look at the practices and policies of a questionable administration. Nine employees gone last year, one on the radar for this year...and it's only February...just keep your eyes on the faculty page and see how the bios change. Either they are hiring poor teachers and have bad hiring practices or they are hiring good teachers and have issues with ... what? In either case, this page is suppose to help those looking at the school be informed. Disgruntled employees or not, facts speak for themselves.

We've been at this school since kindergarten through middle school. Soundview is about a next generation education model, not yesterday's three R's by rote, and not today's teach to the test model. We've stuck with this school because it is always moving forward and improving. Today it has a clear vision and mission to nurture and encourage tomorrow's thinkers and leaders. The community (kids, parents, teachers and staff) is a great group of people to be part of.

Soundview has so many good things and many hard working teachers. But the administration is wacky. There seems to be no solid long term vision. Everything is in flux most of the time. The worse part is the constant change in teaching staff. At times teachers seem to be chosen at the very last minute, sometimes with very little experience. The Head of School seems to make all decisions without any educational expertise or input. I would agree with the review stating that the school was run too much like a business. Also, BEWARE a number of hidden costs not listed on the tuition sheet: nonrefundable deposits that are over $1000, fees for not signing enrollments, high fees for any "clubs" or after school activities and hundreds of extra dollars for school supplies, art supplies, required instrument rentals for band, field trips, other trips - the list goes on.

Soundview is a excellent place for kids to learn to be productive citizens of tomorrow. The focus is on learning, to be thinkers and leaders in a complex, competitive global environment. The curriculum is well rounded, (great music program, too), the teachers are of high caliber and the board and principal are totally devoted to the advancement and growth of the students. I am exteremely pleased with the way the school is providing value, and strongly recommend the school to any parent looking to enroll their child.

This is a great school as we have been there many year and plan to finish through the 8th grade. Lots of individual attention for each and every child. Not sure what the previous post was speaking about as I can only believe by the way it was written that it was written by a disgruntled former employee. I do know that the administration is careful in its selection of teachers and staff and helps them grow and develop.

Soundview is a good school with an incompetent Head and a Board of Directors that just follow in her lead. She considers the school a "business" and treats it as such. With no knowledge of good educational practices, she frequently fires staff that disagrees with her - and often unprofessionally. The school will not grow simply because there is a high teacher turn over rate. Things that get started with one faculty never get finished because 1/2 that faculty leaves within a year or two. They are ALWAYS starting over. If you ask, you'll learn the longest the majority of the staff has been there is under 4 years...a few have gone the distance with 8! It is from them, the teachers dedicated to their jobs, that the school has remained afloat. They put in more time, more energy and more effort than anyone could. The Administration and Board owe the schools short span of success to them and them alone. If you interview...ask questions...lots of them and be direct. Here's an example: you get charged an additional tuition fee if you don't contribute to community service at the school. Bet they don't offer up that gem willingly

Soundview offers challenging and engaging curriculum. The teachers are highly qualified and unbelievably devoted. The IB program is full of creativity and academic rigor. The school resists test driven robotic learning and instead truly encourages inquisitive learning. Overall, you could not find a better school. The only problem is the lack of teacher retention and inconsistant admissions standards. If the school would apply the same rigor to admissions that it applies to academics it would be faultless.

I love how responsive this school is to parent input. They go out of their way to make sure we are informed about future plans for the school and upcoming events that affect each grade. The teachers are passionate and caring. The curriculum is challenging and full of life applications. Most of all, my child wakes up every day and jumps into the car eager to go. She has so much fun she doesn't know how much she has learned.

We are continually impressed with the highly dedicated staff, the ever-growing opportunities at Soundview and the quality of the education that is achieved through the specialty programs that Soundview focuses on such as the International Baccalaureate Programme, Singapore Math, the Lexile program, and the advanced language, art and music classes. We have two children at Soundview and they are excelling in every area of their lives. We are so happy to have found Soundview School.

My daughters started Kindergarten at Soundview this year, and they love it! They come home each day full of excitement and eager to share what they learned in school. The girls "love everything" and I especially love the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program, the dedication to the arts and foeriegn language, and their incredibly talented and loving teachers.

We have 2 sons at Soundview and we truly believe that there couldn't be a better school. The International Baccalaureate program is by far the best educational system.

My child attends kindergarten at Soundview School. My child is excited and happy to go to school every day. Soundview offers great balance between academics and the creative arts. They offer small class sizes, an IB (International Baccalaureate) Programme, Singapore Math, Positive Discipline, art, music, library, Spanish, sports, and the list goes on... We have never regretted our decision to attend this independent school. Take a tour, and you won't be able to envision your family at any other place.
