It is a good school, but the middle school science classes are too crowded, each class size around 30, not enough room to accommodate all students, and absolutely not enough room for lab activities. This is not a safe setting.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at Maplewood. From the very beginning, the coop model made us feel like true partners in our child’s education. The teachers are not only warm, skilled, and deeply committed to each child’s growth, but they also create a nurturing environment that balances structure with creativity.
One of the biggest strengths of this school is the sense of community. Parents aren’t just observers—they’re involved in meaningful ways, whether it’s helping in the classroom, organizing events, or sharing ideas with staff. This creates a supportive network where families really get to know each other, and children feel like they’re growing up surrounded by caring adults who know them well.
The curriculum is thoughtful, play-based, and developmentally appropriate. We’ve watched our child become more confident, curious, and socially aware through hands-on projects, and collaborative learning. It’s clear the school values not just academic readiness but also emotional intelligence, creativity, and kindness.
We are grateful every day that our child is part of such a special community. If you’re looking for a school where your family can actively participate, your child will be known and loved as an individual, and learning is joyful and engaging, Maplewood is an outstanding choice.

The families truly care about and support the students and teachers. More customized curriculum and extra subjects are taught due to the volunteer parents at this school.

I would only recommend K-6—NOT middle school, there are only 4 teachers and no staff support, no vice principal or counselor either in 7-8 grades. Volunteering is good if other parents you are with are dependable. PCEP leadership tends to be “status quo” and not open to change—upper class white people, so be aware of that. Teachers are good in elementary. Principal is new, but not necessarily any better than the last one.

very poor. teachers do not teach and bully students.

Posted: September 21, 2020

homework is given in large loads where students have 2-3 hours of homework a night for 1-2 weeks. the correct answer is prioritized over problem-solving or applying the knowledge.

Posted: September 21, 2020

teachers actively bully students and shame them in front of the class. secondary learning must be done to keep up with classes due to the teachers simply not doing their jobs and actively encourages students to distract others when they are finished with work.

Posted: September 21, 2020

Teachers disrespect student's time and effort and will lose student's work and punish them for it.

Posted: September 21, 2020

this school is a perfect example of leadership theater, the student council is voted for but with the decision made by teachers for the students who they know will do what they want. Money is mismanaged and spent on anti-bullying benches that single out students instead of updating the play equipment that is far too limited or the play structures that fall apart and injures students.

Posted: September 21, 2020

teachers bully students and when students stand up for themselves against bullies or stand up for other students they are punished. teachers ignored death threats from a student towards other students.

Teachers and students are amazing. Principle in my opinion is not deserving of such a great school. She attempts to control PCEP board decisions and currently controls PCEP president. Modern day dictatorship in a public school.

Excellent School! Great children! Super parent support! Wonderful staff! Can't go wrong with this school!

I love it except it gets annoying when you are there for over 3 years because you know everyone and sometimes those people don't like you or they are not like you.

We are a family of the past 4 years at MW. Our experience thus far has been extremely positive. Our kids are either right on target or exceeding for their grade overall. The interaction with students, parents, and teachers is great. Support staff for kids who have additional needs is excellent, and all staff & admin. have open lines of communication with parents and each other. The work is fun, engaging, and challenging. Extra curriculars are improving. I've not found many issues with bullying. I know that the issue was addressed head on, and was emphasized last year with the school inviting Rachel's Challenge in-house. I've seen a difference in how older kids are treating each other, and teaching the younger kids. There do seem to be parental "cliques" that may spill over to the students, with gossiping and such, but it seems those groups gravitate toward each other in any social setting (church, work, etc.) and since so many parents work together here, it happens here too. I've noticed that there is a economic divide. I'm in the lower earning end, but I've not seen it paraded around in my face. They strive to make things fair for all students, affording opportunities to all.
