I can't say enough about Skagit Family Learning Center and Skagit Academy. My student was doing fine in a traditional setting, but was the type of kid to just absorb into the background in a large classroom. Now he attends school three days a week and I help him with his homework the other two days. He is thriving at Skagit Academy and wants to stay! There are only 20 students maximum in each classroom and all his teachers are friendly, encouraging, and challenge him academically. The families at SFLC are welcoming and involved in their students lives, so it's a great environment. If he keeps doing well, he will begin Running Start at Skagit Valley College in 11th grade and his SA advisor will support him in earning his 2-year degree by the time he's 17. He also has the option of staying at Skagit Academy and earning his diploma there. Either way, it's a win! Highly recommend this program for those who are looking for homeschool support or those who are looking for something different.

SFLC/SA has been a life saver for my child. Prior to coming to SFLC/SA she was bullied and her self image was taking a nose dive. She would cry every night before school and hyperventilate before entering the school building. SFLC/SA is a very safe environment. Each teacher is highly motivated, educated, caring. They treat their students as though each child was their own. The curriculum is that of the traditional public school. The students receive 2 days of instruction and then are required to complete the school work of the remaining 3 days on their own at home using the syllabus provided. My child's grades prior to coming to SFLC/SA were not poor but her GPA has increased over her time spent at SFLC/SA. I love the extra time I am able to spend with my child since she is not away at school 5days a week. My only disappointment in SFLC/SA is that they do not operate with the SA (core component) prior to the 5th grade.

They have undergone a lot of changes in the last year and is not like it used to be. Less emphasis on home-school & more on small public school feel and testing! The admin as changed so some changes were expected but if your a home-schooling parent you may see the differences. Mine is out of school now but I would opt to look elsewhere if I ad to go tat route again. They still have amazing teachers so that is a perk along with small classrooms. They are very crowded as they don't have a bi building for the occupancy tat they have.

If you are looking for homeschool environment this is not it. If you are looking for an alternative to public high school, this is not it. SFLC is just another public school - just smaller. But, if you want help for younger kids it is a good resource. There are some good teachers there.

Well we went a year or so ago and we loved it. My son got positive interaction with the teachers and the children. We opted out for a year to try to see what medias worked best for his learning style. The counselors and staff were very helpful.
