Administration and staff have poor communication for services for special education students.

There are so many negatives to this school that I do not know where to begin. My older son is finishing up the 4th grade and his second year at Hillside. My younger son is finishing up Kindergarten and his first year at the school. If you have bright children and would like them to be challenged so that they can excel this is not the right school for them. Both of my children were advanced when they started at Hillside but the staff here that I have encountered so far are only interested in getting everyone to pass and not meeting kids where they are. The biggest issue with the school is their discipline process of Steps. Kids get a step for the smallest things and by step 4 they expect parents to leave work and drop everything they are doing to go to the school and have a conference with the teacher. I am a very involved parent and I do my job at home. I expect teachers and staff to be able to incorporate a discipline system with rewards and consequences that is reasonable. Small issues can be handled at school and I should not be called in because my kindergartener isn't staying in hi seat during the first few weeks of school. Please help your teachers learn classroom management. On another note, my kindergartener started school already reading and since they do not have any other children on his reading level they have stopped involving him in a small reading group so he is just left flapping in the wind while they work with other students, and they wonder why they can't get him to stay in his seat. My older son's 4th grade teacher gives her class their math test to complete twice for homework before giving it to them as a graded test and had the nerve to tell the kids to memorize the answers. She also has made a habit out of crossing off math problems she thinks are too hard to teach and tells the kids not to worry about them. Way to build confidence in the kids, challenge them and prepare them for middle school. This school is a joke and I am looking to move so that I can have my kids transfer.

I love the school and staff. My son is here in his 2nd year. His teachers challenge him and he is doing outstanding. I couldn't ask for a better teacher. He had ms Floyd in Kindergarten and ms Evans now in 1st grade.

I have to say I am very dissapointed in the quality of my son's teacher. My son is in 1st grade at Hillside. When we transferred here I expected his teach to show him around. His backpack was empty for the first week of school there. I emailed the teach only to find out she just noticed he had 3 sheets of math homework still in his cubby. She doesn't check their agendas to see if they wrote their homework before sending them home or to reply to parent's messages. I dont agree with their system they use to discipline students. Basically, they make them face the wall. I wish I could transfer him back to Greenwood.

My son and daughter attend Hillside and are having a great year. Both of their teachers are willing to answer all my questions and have been very helpful. I like this school and have no issues as of now.

My daughter is enjoying this school. She also love her teacher and staff. The staff is kind and always teaches the student how to be creative and how to explore. The new environment is great. I daughter absolutely is in love with this school.

My daughter has had the best time in this school. Her teachers have been amazing. They have helped so much with identifying the areas she needed help with and then provided a game plan to help her improve. The extra time that has been taken to help, considering the class sizes is amazing. I have nothing for great things to say of this school and the teachers.

My child is slated to go there. He has special needs. We are a week out from his first day and can't seem to get any answers from the staff about whether he will be morning or afternoon or who his teacher will be. Mew have called several times. When my husband went up there the secretary told him she had enough to do without monitoring phone calls all day long! She was extremely rude. Why would I want to send my child to a school like that? I believe we are a part of a team when it comes to ensuring that children get the best out of their education. If the staff is like this it doesn't make me very eager to leave my child in their hands to mold his mind.

We have had my son at this school going on 3 yrs and it seems to be working well for him. Remember parents it is our job as parents to raise our children and assist the teachers in the teaching process at home so the children can get a better understanding through home life and school, life. If we don't reinforce what is taught at school on the homefront then you may feel like the school is letting you down. Parents take an interest in your students progress and see where you as a parent can help out. I would not move my son to a different school as he has made leaps and bounds while attending Hillside. Keep up the great work teachers!

The teachers and staff don't seem to really care about the students. They seemed shocked that we were so concerned about our son's learning and education. There are a few teacher's we have liked and a few we haven't. Can't wait to get further East where they actually care about education!

I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS SCHOOL & THE 2nd GRADE TEACHER. SHE IS NO HELP TO MY GRANDDAUGHTER & ACTUALLY PICKS ON HER TO THE POINT THAT MY GRANDDAUGHTER NOW HATES SCHOOL!! I AM NEW TO PUBLIS SCHOOLS & CANNOT BELIEVE THE HOW COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IT IS FROM PRIVATE SCHOOL...THE COMPLETE LACK OF CARE & CONCERN FOR THE STUDENTS!! THIS SCHOOL IS A MISERABLE FAILURE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE!!! WE'RE LOOKING INTO CHANGING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!!
