Park Lodge Elementary School

It’s important to note that there is a new Principal at Park Lodge Elementary. I’ve read several reviews about someone named Mrs. Muzzulo, that sound terrible, but she is no longer there. The new principal, Mrs. DeShields, is wonderful. I’ve spoken to her several times, and she is always positive and, I think, does her best for the students. My daughter says the she even drops by the classroom occasionally to have lunch (covid year, the kids ate in the classroom) or just say hello.
The teachers there are absolutely amazing. Every single one I’ve interacted with have been kind, supportive, attentive, and genuinely interested in what is best for every student. During virtual learning I’ve overheard the classes at times, and I’m so impressed with how patient, and effective they’ve been throughout this stressful year.
During in person days (hybrid) every teacher I encountered during drop off and pick up, knew my child’s name, and they always had a smile on their face and a kind word.
My child has never had a problem with bullying. She considers all of her classmates to be her best friends.
I would definitely recommend this school to everyone.

It seems to me that kids today in general are poorly disciplined. The ability of a schools staff to effect change is broken in a lot of cases since parents are also disrespectful and will push back. The School principal is the key to setting the standards and backing up the staff when discipline is needed. Unfortunately the leadership at this school is very poor.

Overall the school would receive a low rating from me. The teachers are great but are not well supported by their principal and thus the district. Complaints from the teachers must be being ignored by the district in that no effective change is being made when it's severely needed. More effective leadership and support of the teachers would make this school a far better place than it is.

The teachers genuinely care about the students and their success, I have found that they work hard to make the students as successful as they can. Unfortunately the data on this page is severely behind, this year the student ratio is over half ELL meaning that more than half the students do not have English as their first language and as a result need intense reading and writing instruction. And try to understand that if a student cannot understand the material, that affects every subject, and they will not learn much. There are students in 5th grade that are learning 1st grade math...

NOTE! This is a military community, and as such students come and go from all over the country. These teachers do not have an easy job of it.

Neither the teachers or students are well supported by their principal. I have had the displeasure of meeting Mrs. Melluzzo. I have personally seen her yell at students. Upon further inquiry with some of the teaching staff, none had anything good to say about her. She sounds like she has very poor management skills, which is something that is essential for being a leader.

I am honestly surprised that a formal inquiry of her behavior has not been done. I would expect a person in public employ to have a better disposition that what she has.

My daughter has went to park lodge for 2 years now and the teachers are great.Well educated and caring.But that's not the same for the principal she never smiles and is emotionless. Now my child can't go to park lodge anymore because of a boundary change . My daughter loves the school so i told the superintendent and she says that the principal knows my daughter will do just fine at her area school. Which my area school made my daughter suffer and get bullied.so i told her that and the prinipal said well all i can say is to put her on the waiting list if there's a spot open maybe she can stay.So my daughter will now have to change schools for a 3rd time. Mrs. Melluzzo is a horrible principal.

It's my sons first year there and has generally had a positive time. However, when he showed up for the early morning Y care program (as he's has for 3 1/2 months currently) because he wasn't "signed in" they removed him from the gym into a hallway. If it wasn't for his generous teacher taking him with her the office staff were going to place him outside by himself, unsupervised and in the cold. When I called the principle she immediately wanted to blame the YMCA and then defended her policy of leaving a child outside. OUTRAGEOUS! So happy to know that my money goes toward feeding her and her family and keeps her warm I'm here school while she would have no problem putting a kid outside by themselves in the cold.

My daughter has attended Park Lodge since Preschool. She is now a 4th almost 5th grader. The teachers are great and my daughter has excelled in every class that she takes there. The teachers are friendly and attentive to students needs. I would pick this school over any other elementary school in Washington State and have because Park Lodge is worth the time and effort that not only the students put in but the parents and teachers as well. Thumbs up for Park Lodge!

Park lodge is the best elementary i have ever seen. My children were very behind by a year to 2 years behind but this school has brought them to the right grade level or far beyond that level in the last year -2 years. my son is now in 2nd grade but his reading and his math are at a 4th grade level now and they believe his reading will hit 6th grade level by the end of the year!!!

My son is in Ms. Browns special needs pre-k class. He has an unknown delay that sets him back about a year and I am so impressed with his teacher! I was skeptical that he'd be challenged in a multi-age class where everyone's needs are different but academically, he is doing so well. I'd say he's beyond prepared for kindergarten after 8 months in her class. My only complaint is that they need a bathroom inside the classroom for special needs instead of sharing a bathroom with the upper grades. She expresses my same concern and is very genuine with caring for the children.

This school had a creative feel, and kids seemed to do lots of interesting projects, but that seems to have changed. People are working hard, but there is less student work on the walls, and I don't see kids working together as much as when we first started.
