My son entered GV in 9th grade. Any time we reach out to a school counselor or teacher we have had our emails returned promptly and respectfully. My son uses SPed services and the staff are excellent and practical with accommodations and recommendations for our son’s course load. We have had zero complaints about GV. Our experience has been fantastic.

GV does absolutely nothing about the increasing amount of bullying that occurs within their school. They expect a child to learn in an atmosphere with no control or boundaries. Failure to transfer accountability to the parent(s) for their child’s unacceptable behavior, and institute disciplinary actions on the one behaving badly, this administration is directly complicit in allowing children to be subjected to unspeakable bullying.

Based on the most recent survey results, the administration has knowledge that GV is not a safe environment. Their willful neglect to address the bullying and safety concerns borders on reckless endangerment.

I hate to lead with negativity but parents should know how bad this school truly is. I wish I knew prior to enrolling my child. Terrible safety concerns regarding bullying and lack of following guidelines on safety protocols. Uninformed and disconnected administrators. They are too overwhelmed in situations that prove to be crucial for setting the tone for tolerance. Incompetence is very apparent and it trickles down from the administration to the teachers. I would strongly advise choosing just about any other school than GV. This school fosters discrimination and violence.

I hear this School "used to be" a very wonderful School and many of their students thrived! I really wish this was the experience my kid could have had. This School is full to the brim with bullies, and the educators are are extremely dismissive about it. Their "solutions" are to sit in the quiet room at lunch if you don't feel safe, but only 1 child is aloud. They also have the children do a 'No Contact order' which is blatantly ignored by the bullies and their friends. All we are told is, due to the increase of section 8 families within the community, our hands are tied with removing the student from the school. Into the learning portion, There are also certain Teachers who dislike accommodating for 504c/IEP students and make their time in class very hard. When addressed, the child is most certainly to blame and the teacher is defended.

I can only speak from my pov and what I've seen, when my child first went there coming from another state she was nervous and teary eyed... One staff member personally escorted her top class while trying to calm her down, and a member of the security team at the school helped me a lot trying to get things done on campus for my daughter's books and meals and whatnot :-)

With both the staff and students, especially when this pandemic hit they were quick to take action and made sure that students and parents were informed and had the proper tools to continue online studies.

Not sure never looked into it? This school has so many programs though so I doubt they'd not have one for children with learning differences.

My daughter is extremely shy and not really athletic, she felt left out during pe when the Kids teamed up for football and she wanted to try, but didn't get picked... Instead of trading her the kids came up to her and said this class is for 4 weeks practice tossing for a week and then play so you don't get hurt. I choose strongly agree because seriously my little geek never got billed as long as she's been there "knock on wood".

Not only do they issue student laptops for anything hw related, they keep on top of student progress. My child is a straight A student, but when she's having a hard time with something she's not afraid to ask for help and receive it. This alone says a lot for me.

I review everything with my daughter as far as homework and her understanding of assignments, I ask her questions such as: how did he/she explain this to you? Did you understand? Are you comfortable to openly ask questions... When she's sick I call the teachers directly and they always Mark her assignments for a week later to catch up.

My son had a girl say something very inappropriate and sexually suggestive to him off campus and he reported it to the principal. The next day the girl was reprimanded because if it had been a boy saying those things to a girl, there would have been a huge uproar, and there can't be differences. I feel they heard our concerns and addressed them.

My son has had a wonderful experience at Glacier View. I really think that kids get out of school what they put in. I have no idea why the "score" for this school is so low. Test scores are a poor indication of how "good" a school is in my opinion.

I’ve had two sets of twins who have gone to this school consecutively for the last 4 Years, one of whom has autism. The staff is supportive, the admin are great with the kids, I feel my children have been treated well. We are of Hispanic and native decent and never have my children been bullied, culturally unrepresented or oppressed. My autistic son has been supported and grown in leaps in bounds while attending Glacier View. I feel they set the students up for success both academically and socially. The community of children Do not have gang ties nor are they violent, in fact they are just regular teens and most are supportive of others and their differences. Over all it’s a great school and my kids have had nothing but good experiences.

P.S. the PTSA is wonderful at Glacier View join if you can, you won’t regret it.

I rated this school 4 out of 5 because it is a good school. However, what I do not like is their lunch policy. My daughter was short just 10 cents on her lunch and the lunch lady came and took her tray away and threw it in the trash. Wow. Just for 10 cents? Because she didn't have 10 cents my daughter was hungry the rest of the day. So disappointed in your new policy Glacier View.

I was a student and member of the first class to go through all three years at Glacier View Junior High, graduating ninth grade five years ago. I had an amazing experience, loved all of my teachers, the school clubs and teams, and the facility itself. The principal during my time, Mr. Vetter, was highly unliked by the majority of students at the time but was removed from office pretty soon after my departure. The rest of the staff was great! Also, I felt very prepared for high school thanks to the honors classes that were offered, as well as the language option available at Emerald Ridge during ninth grade (which also helped me become more comfortable with taking classes at the high school).

As a new family to the district and school, I will admit my expectations were low. The staff at Glacier View (GV) has failed to meet my low expectations.
I put all the blame on the principal; Mr. Widman.

I went to glacier view for 3 years. I would have to say that my experience there was amazing. I was on Kodiak, talol, and MBC. My teachers were wonderful and willing to do anything Inorder to help me succeed. I am currently a sophomore at Emerald Ridge Highschool. It hasn't been the best experience teacher wise but coming into sophomore year I feel better prepared because of my former teachers at glacier view.

I was a student on the SEAL, Rainer and Zentih teams and couldn't have asked for a better expirence in jr high. These are supposed to be the best years of your life and they were thanks to the supportive and helpful staff MINUS the TERRIBLE vice principal Jim St George

My daughter did not like going to GV so much that we enrolled her in Ferrucci after three months into her 7th grade year. She remained at Ferrucci and was very happy. My daughter suffered from a documented & chronic medical condition that caused her to be absent on more that a couple occasions. GV was unwilling to work with us or offer any help to keep my daughter from falling behind. I even received a harassing call from a teacher while I was in line at our pharmacy after an ER visit asking me what I intended to do! But when I asked her what her plan was to help my daughter stay on track she didn't have one and said that was not why she called. I reported her to admin & I was told that they ask their teachers to call parents of absent students. That was the first call I had ever received from a teacher or have since. Sorry to be negative but the majority of the students and parents seem to have uppity attitudes and are not that friendly to each other or welcoming. The teachers just didn't seem that experienced or mature. It's a fairly new school w/all the bells & whistles but if the teachers and staff are only mediocre what difference does it make to have all that technology.

Glacier View is an excellent school! I have gone here for 3 years and love the learning environment. All the teachers are kind and helpful and push you towards goal attainment. The school is very involved in Spirit Assemblies and events that help students prepare for a better future. I am personally involved in many school activities, including the HEROES Team (Spirit Team). Glacier View is also one of the most technologically advanced schools in the district in terms of what we have available to us. I will miss Glacier View when I move to Emerald Ridge High School next year. Go Avalanche!
