This school focuses mainly on discipline but then doesn’t even actually do anything. The administration takes sides, they don’t hear both sides out in a conflict, they grasp as straws to get students in trouble and even go so far as to lie about them, they do absolutely nothing to actually resolve the conflict, all they focus on is shutting both parties up so they don’t have to hear any more complaints. As a student who’s had to deal with the administration on a few different accounts, none of them actually benefited me in any way shape or form nor did I feel like I was seen/heard/taken seriously. I don’t recommend this school if you take your child’s mental health seriously because the school won’t.

I hoped I was able to post a picture but I can’t, I was standing in the main office of a few minutes before anyone greeted me, there was more then a few people (staff) huddled together on their personal phone talking about football, specifically Seahawks. I was completely ignored and was unnoticeable to them till a lady came out and apologized so I didn’t say anything about how unprofessional they are, I just let it go, I wished I did because they were just zoned in on their phones, the reason I was there in the first place cause my daughter was crying cause she wasn’t feeling well and her teacher wouldn’t allow her to go to the nurse office.

Most classes offer easy-to-do handouts as a replacement for textbooks. The majority of students enrolled here will never get to read a textbook until their senior year. Consequently, many are left unprepared to enter into college rigor. Seemingly, this school does anything it can to make classes easier and inflate its grades.

Some of the teachers at WHS are truly passionate about their work. However, more than half of the professors I was burdened with were lazy, easy going, non inspiring induviduals. They just did what they could to make most of the class pass, not to educate students to their highest potential. Those that try to educate at a higher level risk getting fired for not meeting "passing quotas."

With the school being so culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse, most students are very open minded and accepting of others. Moreover, the small school size means most students get to know most others on campus. However, there is a lack of respect among students for higher education. Most seem to only care about social media, celebrities, or just getting out. The culture of learning is completely none existent, which is why I personally joined RS (and I'm so glad I did).

Most clubs at this school are a joke, save for MESA and a few others. The students who run them don't have a care for maintaining the club or achieving any missions. As for the student body, what student body? Other than a few random school holidays thrown in here or there and occasional appearance assemblies, one could hardly notice any student leadership in the school.

Again, this school is full of many diverse, open minded, students. No matter how irritating or out right brainless they often are, the majority of the student body manages to share a collective empathy.

My experience at WHS was just unfulfilling. Aside from a few English teachers who actually taught their curriculum with high-school level difficulty, most other classes felt like a joke: it was if I was back in middle school. Ninety nine percent of the "courses" didn't even use textbooks, instead, relying on short and concise "homework" packets. That does not prepare your for success in college, which many students in WHS don't seem to be aiming for anyways. The worst part about it is the downright lack of an academic culture: most students could care little about their ambitions or grades. The classmates I was burdened with during my time at WHS only cared about three things: sexual relationships, social media, and celebrities. Lets not even mention how down right moronic the majority of the students are. In my history class, for example, I once witnessed a peer coming to realization that that submarines were real and not just Hollywood fiction. It was as if for the first time, they had actually shed the slightest effort to "think". Don't even try using the excuse," But the students are low income. They struggle with ordeals outside of school. That's why they are unmotivated." During my time at WHS, I was living in a small, cramped apartment, having to withhold the yelling and abuse of my parents as they wondered how they were going to pay of rent. I too was a low-income student, one who witnessed the nature of drugs first hands with their ability to attract, consume, and break down a person. I was seriously considering the possibility joining a criminal affiliation to pay off the insane rent here in Washington state. Yet, I was motivated enough to pass the already laughably easy classes here: the students at WHS are not disadvantaged- their just something else entirely. Overall, I'm glad I did Running Start at TCC and escaped this mess of a school. The transition from this pile of junk to an actual institution was the hardest of my life, yet the most necessary. I hope WHS has improved with time: Its sad to see low income student get stuck with the only local high school and not receive the education they deserve. I too was once burdened like them, and if it wasn't for Running Start, I would not have succeeded in my Post-Secondary ambitions.

If only outsiders knew what the teachers, coaches, and supporting staff do every day to reach the students of WHS. The dedication and sacrifice is endless and this forum does not provide enough space to list the things I have witnessed, but these people do whatever it takes and treat students like their own kids. From providing Winter Wishes to most of the 1,000 students around the holidays to making home visits to help challenged students, to even just providing meals and safe spaces for kids after school, I cannot stress the good hearts that work here to serve the community. Look at recent test data. WHS is in uncharted waters; despite pretty high poverty levels, their graduation rates are amazing and the level that they raise students' test scores from middle school rates is unparalleled. I don't want my kids going to a "perfect" school where everyone looks the same and says the same things. I want them to gain respect for all types of people and have the most supportive teachers that are willing to put kids first. That is what this school is all about.

Alright, so putting aside "Patriot Pride" or whatever other buzzwords get plastered on here, this school was decent enough. I recently graduated from WHS as a part-time student there, the rest being spent as a Running Start Student. WHS is NOT by any means a bad school. They have done much to improve their image. It is a fairly safe school and quite honestly had some of the greatest teachers that I have ever met. The 70% rule was fantastic. If you can't do that you better like working a dead-end job because it doesn't get any easier post High School. Now, as I said this WAS a great rule. Now it's just stupid. Students being able to retake tests in order to pass, grade padding with a ridiculous percentage of the final grade being attributed to homework and attendance, it's all just lying really. A student shouldn't be able to skip a test because they can retake it until they pass. Even blind guessing will eventually get them a 70% so whats the point. Why pass unable students through the system? It's not helping anyone. In the end, that's what ruins this school's scores. Not it's "lack of caring teachers" nor it's "passiveness" it's the fact that it's to lazy to fix itself.

As a senior at Washington High School and someone who has attended this school since freshmen year I believe our school deserves a much better rating. Our test sores have improved greatly and we have made our school have a family like environment. Everyone from freshmen to seniors show their pride every Friday. We support our football team with huge audiences and we always know how to do things right. Washington High School is an amazing school wit the best teachers out there. They don't come to school everyday just to teach, they build relationships with us and help us be successful in all we want to do. If it wasn't for their amazing encouragement and involvement our school wouldn't be as great as t it, not to mention we have great administrators that actually take part and care about what we do. I love WHS :)

I'm currently a senior at WHS and I can say with conviction that it is the best school I've ever been to. Our principle is always out and about, ready to answer questions or encourage us when we need a pick-me-up; the staff is incredibly kind and ready to help anyone at the drop of a hat; my counselor has gotten to know me on a personal level and genuinely cares about my future; and my teachers? Don't get me started! I've never had a teacher at WHS that I haven't liked. I consider many of them to be mentors and role models rather than simple instructors. The teachers at WHS invest in their students personally, and are always there if we have troubles - inside OR outside of school. Though it's corny, a few of my teachers have helped shape the person I am today. There are those rare "inspirational" teachers who stick with you long after you graduate. Our school climate is awesome. For the most part, everyone respects and loves one another. I have never felt unsafe or threatened at WHS, and we have a zero-tolerance stance on bullying. There are tons of different clubs, we have monthly homework help and study sessions, and no one is excluded. Everyone has a place at WHS!

Best school EVER! Honestly, i've gone here 3 years, and it's been the best 3 years of my life. The leadership program continues to get stronger and the school continues to get better! Love all the teachers and everyone is SUPER Friendly. Also, there is an overload of pride and spirit at this school. Gotta love that PATRIOT PRIDE! I <3 WHS :)

I go to this school right now as a freshmand. Its okayy but people are so passive. But there is a lot of school spirit so i guess thats cool. The teachers are really cool and there is a lot of freedom in the class room. But maybe too much freedom. Its not a bad school but honestly it depends on the type of person that you are in order to like it. :)
