I have read the negative comments regarding Mt. Baker middle school and feel like writing my first hand experience about this school. My elder daughter went to this school and now she just finished her pre- med from UW and is preparing for her MCAT. Thanks to all the wonderful teachers at Mt. Baker, staff, and the leadership of Principal Brown who is such an amazing principal! Now my younger one is in 8th grade and going to the same school! I am a very proud Mt. Baker parent! All the teachers are very learned and respectful! If you really want your kids to learn how to deal in real diversified world then Mt. Baker is the best! I could have sent my girls to private or other schools in the neighborhood but I wanted them to lead their life in diversity so that the transition from school to real world is easy and comfortable for them. That is what has happened and both my girls know how to deal with diversified group of people around them. I love the way this school handles diversity and how respectful is the staff towards their students. We are so proud and blessed Mt. Baker Parents.

This school is very stressful and overcrowded, and some of the teachers aren't the best. The lunchroom is chaos.

Mt. Baker is an amazing school. Ask your neighbors about their experience here. Better yet, come in and take a tour and talk with me. I’m happy to answer all your questions. My own two kids attended Baker and many of our teachers have their kids here too. Our kids are amazing, our staff is talented, our culture is strong.

The faculty at this school is wonderful and they clearly care about the kids. However the number of tests that happen in a given week is too much in my opinion. This week for example, my child will have taken 11 tests, 2 of which were in the same class on the same day. I understand the value of testing for both the student and the school but I feel there could be a reduction in the emphasis on testing here.

As a student, I am a bit discouraged to see the attendance and office staff. When I was a new student last year, on Bulldog Day (the day when students receive their schedules and get their pictures taken), the halls were very crowded, to the point one person would have at most 1 foot radius of space between them and the next person. The office staff was very disorganized. My parents and I had to wait at least 15 minutes before we could get my schedule changed. The office ladies there are also very short-tempered. Attendance was not one of my favorable criteria. On occasions, I would be tardy twice a week. If a student is tardy more than twice per quarter, s/he would receive a lunch detention. A "freebie" is given in the beginning of every quarter. However, the school suspended this rule this year. I suspect this rule may come again some time in the future.

Iam not very satisfied with the older woman. Who works in the front office she is very unprofessional.Everyone she speak with she talks to in belittling way. My child has been bully constantly Iam close to home schooling her.The kids are allowed to put their hands on my child with no consequence what so ever.

I enrolled my child in the middle of the year when we moved to WA from out of state. The school was very receptive, staff is amazing and kids bonded immediately. I simply love this school

If i could I rate the staff zero stars. They are very rude been hung up on several times and also do not appreciate someone accusing my daughter that she was lying when asked why she was tardy. Some of the staff should take a course on how to talk to kids they're human too or maybe find another occupation.

Mount Baker is a great school. My son enjoyed going to school and the staff was always helpful and supportive of my child. They have an excellent music program. I would recommend moving to a community nearby so your child could attend this school!

Honestly, if i could give this school zero stars, I would. I know firsthand that what two of the other reviewer have said, is absolutely true. This school does NOT want to educate any student that is not classified as typical. Moreover, they do not want them in attendance, even if this is the neighborhood school for that child. I remember even setting up a meeting with Mr. Adams who was the principal at the time, he called me, then never showed. I sat in his office until the vice-principal finally came in. My son was coming home with all kinds of cuts and bruises that no one could explain. He was non-verbal, so he could not tell me what was happening. i finally had to pull him out and send him to a different middle school. If you have a model child, this school may be okay, but if the school has to work to educate your child....well, you will be out of luck!

I have had two children attend this school. My oldest started in 7th and is now in high school. One of his counselors suggested he play football as a means to help keep his grades up. I met one on one with all of his teachers to get a plan of action together so that he would not get left behind in his learning. The teachers truly cared about his success. Now my middle son is attending this school. He has always gotten great grades and done well in school. This year I feel the school is challenging him in a different way. In his leadership skills. They have a variety of clubs he can join all in the effort of making him a responsible, caring and contributing adult. I am very pleased and impressed with what I have seen occur in my children's growth and education at Mount Baker.
