This ‘school’ lacks basic safety protocol. A child was seriously injured early in the school day and the staff failed to do the bare minimum. Oh n a situation that required immediate emergency medical assessment, the child wasn’t even seen by the nurse. Parents were not notified until hours later. Your children are not safe on this campus. Be VERY wary.

This school was horrible. We pulled our kids out after a few weeks. Don't buy into the false claims. Staff was extremely rude and unprofessional, "teachers" are not certified at all.

Horrible! They are so freaking full of themselves and have very inflated opinions of who and what they are. I can speak to this location specifically that they are not following the stipulated/explicit policies set forth by Great Hearts the network aka franchise and they are exploiting parents and kids! Run the hell away if you love your children!

Oh heck no! They will admit kids with disabilities etc...but then they fail them out. We didn't have issues in this area but witnessed enough

Horrible! Don't take my word for it...go on the Dept of Education Website and look up any teacher in the elementary...you will find a drove of people with no certifications, no training etc! Run AWAY!

Do not send your child to ATE if he or she has ADHD-type behaviors, learning issues, are energetic, etc. The teacher that we have had this year does not appear to have any experience in dealing with children with any type of challenges and energy. The school is also very nitpicky about the children's behavior and are very punitive. They do not teach coping skils or other methods to manage behavior. My child went from loving school to dreading it. We have not left the school as my child has made such great friends. It is also a very long school day 7:50-3:10, considering they teach in a lecture-style. Be prepared for a lot of homework, even though research has proven that excessive homework is not beneficiai. So, if you have a quiet child who is an "A" student this is the school for you, if not BEWARE.

There is lack of communication with certain teachers. Being told your child will be retained two weeks prior to the end of the school year is very frustrating.
My childs grades were fluctuating a lot, sometimes they were great then not so great.
Throughout the year I emailed the teachers & even set up meetings with them & they never mentioned he was failing.
The "headmaster" aka principal didn't care to talk to us inregards to testing to see if there was a learning disability, she seemed bothered. Shortly after she actually got up & said she had to leave.
We tested my child & was diagnosed with ADD.

Those that are teachers are great. The best teachers know how to explain these big picture concepts in age-appropriate language. *Some* of the professionals who transition into teaching have been less effective. Not all though. The Headmaster was a scientist who taught science and she was brilliant. But the workload the teachers are expected to cover is not a good use of their time either, and the good ones know this and know how to balance the amount they need to cover with the learning needs of the students without feeling like they just have to "push through".

WAY too much, and this is the problem I have. Much of it (like annotating what they're reading) is busy work. There's no need for it, especially if you want students to retain what they are learning.

I guess we will see. There was a recent cheating incident and it's been stated that students caught cheating would be kicked out. If they are not, then it will reinforce what I believe about favoritism within the GH system.

First and foremost, the headmaster and the staff are the most caring and concerned people you could be fortunate enough to meet. I give a lot of credit to the teachers, most of whom are incredibly well educated and can teach a variety of subjects effortlessly. At Trivium, the Math and Science programs are outstanding. I wish I could call out all the great STEM faculty by name.

Now the problems . . . .I feel all of the Great Heart Schools have some deeply flawed approaches to education. Most notably, they have an unforgiving curriculum that expects a high quantity of material to be covered in any given year. It seems more important to promote that the students read these books, but in the rush to get everything done, student aren't able retain information, since they are moving so quickly onto the next assignment. Also, the emphasis on the classics in many ways leaves the kids unable to really discuss current events at length. We are in an election year, but little of the present is covered. And over time, I have come to observe that this school is a charter school for well-off families. I get that families may need to contribute in order to help the school function, but the school (and the parents) clearly celebrate those who have funds versus those they perceive to have less means. If you're a "founding family" or attend the golf tournament, you're in the "in-group". If you don't have the time, or your civic priorities are elsewhere, then good luck integrating your kids into the school. It's a social exclusion for children as well as the parents that continues to grow with each year, especially as the students start to drive. Lastly, if you look at the Board on the website, the political leanings of the board members is so imbalanced. It is a board of policy makers, politicians and commentators, but not educators

We'll stick it out, largely because to our surprise, when the new school was built, it happened to become closer to our home and by default happens to be our local school. But until concerns about workload are addressed system-wide, I won't be contributing financially. Also, as a family, we'll continue to volunteer in the city, because this school, in no way prepares students for the realities of the world due to its highly homogeneous culture.

The teacher involvement at Archway is amazing. They keep parents involved and updated to help bring out the best in their scholars. They offer extracurricular opportunities not offered in many area schools.

I will first of all say that this school is over-rated and does not challenge kids academically; only caught up in scholars/founders mentality.

I agree with the post from August 2015, the school is discriminating and labeling kids unnecessarily. The administration and teachers act as if they are inexperienced in dealing with kids. If you believe kids are kids and are meant to act like kids; then don't send your child to this school.

No school is perfect but at least most will take some responsibility of their misguided actions; this school does not.

If you believe in discriminating against kids, than this is the school for you. If your child does not meet the school's standard then they will be kicked out or never accepted. This school can say they are highly rated, but if you only take top performers, it's very difficult not to be at the top. So, yes, you can say you're a great school if you don't want poor kids, kids who don't speak English well, or who struggle. Perhaps that makes community members and parents feel great, but as for me I am horrified that my tax money is going to support such an unethical institution.

My daughter has attended Archway Classical Academy at Trivium for three years. We spent one year on the Archway waiting list and enrolled her in Kindergarten at a local public elementary school. While attending this school, we watched our daughter struggling for the one on one attention she deserved and desperately needed in a class of 25+ students and one teacher. Although it was an academically sufficient school, it did not remotely compare to the Archway community we have grown to know and love. Archway provides a fantastic teacher to student ratio. Each child walking through the hallways is known by name. Everyone from the office staff, teachers of different grade levels, and the Headmaster, are familiar with the students on a casual basis. The curriculum is challenging to be sure, but crafted in such a way, the students hardly realize the magnitude of their accomplishments. Many thanks to the dedicated staff who tirelessly serve our families! Without them, our school community would not be as dynamic as it is each day!

With the academic hunger of our honor students constantly being stifled by a local, A-rated public school, our family turned to Archway with high hopes... and they have delivered for us on so many levels. Our kids were immediately engaged by their new group of like-minded peers, the challenging classical curriculum and a fresh-faced staff who are obviously uncorrupted by the ideals of common core. We also love the fact that character building is just as important as academia here at Archway; their "no pop-culture" rule is brilliant! With an emphasis on subjects such as Latin, Singapore math and Spencerian penmanship (after technology seemed to replace the study of cursive writing in public schools) , we really couldn't ask for a better learning environment for our "scholars". I would highly recommend that parents who are intrigued sign up for a tour The two years spent on the wait-list is definitely worth the wait! :)

We were on the wait-list for 2 years before my son got into 5th grade in Archway Trivium this school year (2013 - 2014). As soon as I got the call, I wasted no time to register him and pull him out of the public school. Although he was attending a highly rated public school, he was not being challenged enough! The teachers at Great Hearts are so passionate about teaching! My son loves everything about it! I love the fact that whatever he gets as homework or assignment is due the very next day. I never have to keep track of project due dates for him anymore, which was a nightmare in 4th grade. There are some disadvantages like there are no school buses and Wednesday's are early release days! But these are very small things compared to the big picture! Archway Trivium provides top-notch education which is impossible to find in even the highest rated public schools. It has been 2 months into this school year and I still have to find that one thing which I would like to change about this school! None so far! Yes, the expectations levels are very high from each student, but thats exactly what we wanted for our son! This school gets "A++++" in our books!

This is my son's 2nd year at Trivium. I pulled him out of the local public school because he was not being challenged. I love the socratic method of teaching and the Classical education. My son was reading books in 6th grade that his 9th grade friends are just starting to read. The teachers have an incredible passion for teaching and it's not just a job to them. I love the size of the classrooms and the top-notch education he wouldn't get anywhere else. The AIMS testing is a true reading as they don't spend 2 weeks "preparing the students" by giving them practice tests. Yes, the homework can be daunting at times but my son has learned to be organized and can get it done in a timely manner. I wouldn't change anything about this incredible school and the staff who works there. This school gets and "A+" in my books!

My just completed his first year of first grade here coming from a highly rated public school. The reason I moved him is not because I had a problem with he public school personally, but the class sizes are so large with no teachers aid, the kids get lost n the crowd and teachers are exhausted and stressed. Volunteering in a class of 30 for 2 hours was exhausting. Plus, public schools sem to teach, to test. The budget cuts and test score focus at even the best public school are forcing parents to look elsewhere so our kids get an adequate learning enviromen. The Great Heart Accademies off 14 students per teacher with a high expectation on each student. My son in first grade with 28 students actually had 3 teachers in his class with no shared aids. They each knew their students personally. The only negative thing I could say about the school is YES, the homework and study load is alot. I feel like we got home from school, did studying and homework from time we got home until dinner at 7pm! But, VERY VERY WORTH IT. Pick your battles, if this is the worst thing, we are doing GREAT! Thank God for thus school that gives you a high eduacation without the extreme cost.

My son has attended archway for the past two years and has flourished on this academic environment. The quality of curriculum, teaching, and learning is phenomenal. I truly believe that the teachers are of a higher quality and really get to know each student. The only negative comment that I can make is the homework load is quite heavy and my son didn't do as well on the AIMS as I expected, however, this is a school that does not "teach to the test". Highly recommended!
