We have 2 children at SPES who initially attended a local private school for multiple years of preschool and kindergarten. We are pleased with the experienced teachers at SPES, as well as the great ratio of students to teachers and the availability of Pre-K on campus. Our child was able to be screened for the gifted program and for speech therapy easily and quickly. The new building is exceptional, especially the media center. The school leadership and teachers communicate well with parents. Our children have gotten out of the neighborhood bubble and now have friends with different abilities, skin color, family makeup, and financial situations. This was not the case in the private school they attended. Our children do not get assigned homework (yet?).

There is ZERO leadership. The teachers (the ones that care) run around putting out behavioral fires and very lete time left for real teaching.

If your child is learning at grade level they show very little interest in them because so many of their students have SEVER behavioral issues.

Absolutely NOT! Their take is kids will be kids. And even make the child being bullied sit right next to their bully in class.

They don't give home work at all.

In 8 months at least 4 time my daughters 3rd grade teacher has COMPLETELY forgotten to bring the to lunch.

If you assault another student there are no consequences except having to go back to class, and sometimes the teachers see these fights and decided they are not worth reporting because in one teachers words “no one will do anything anyway”

The security of the buildings is questionable. There is no reason the students should be sent to open the doors for adults coming into the building. Also, the office staff is not very friendly. Despite that, the teachers that we have had experience with were wonderful.

Dedicated teachers, and lots of guidance for parents to help their child succeed. Great variety of after school clubs. Lots of options for all kids to find a club doing what they love. Honestly, I'm surprised they offer so much considering most public schools cut everything now a days.

SPE takes quality, personalized education to a new level. The principal's best quality is the atmosphere that she fosters at the school - one of communication and cooperation, with parents, teachers and students alike. There is a wide range of after school opportunities available and participation is encouraged. The proximity to downtown SP provides numerous opportunities for walking field trips and exploration. The teachers are almost all superb quality, as are the specials teachers and other staff. I am very glad that my children have had the opportunity to attend SPE.

This is our second year at SPES, and we have experience in all three grades. My kids have been challenged and nurtured by the teachers and staff. The academic standards are continually evaluated and updated to maximize student learning. The school has an awesome positive behavior reward system. Parent involvement is encouraged and there are diverse ways to be involved - literally something for everyone. If I have one complaint, it is the emphasis on End Of Grade testing (EOG). Throughout the school year, this emphasis ramps up. I don't fault the school so much as the entire state/national testing policy, but parents should be aware of the testing. I do feel that SPES works hard to encourage the kids to engage and perform up to their ability on the test in positive ways.

My daughter attended SPES for two years. The school is very old, but is adequately maintained. It is located in a high end neighborhood and surrounded by beautiful historic homes. My daughter and I both enjoyed the teachers and administration.
