I had no proper teacher for half a year for 2 different subjects. Every year the ELA teacher is biased toward a certain person, and even the kids who had hundreds in their class received hate. At one point the teacher set up cones in the middle of the hallway, which cause more traffic than our hall could take. Kids would fight or almost fight and break up relationships that lasted 4 days. The highlight of my days was the band, in which we marched and gave concerts. That being said, it was the best public middle school in the area.

I have three sons to have attended and attend this school. This is one of the best schools in the area with caring teachers and staff members. My two old teenagers are well prepared for high school (Union Pines) academically and they have been doing great. New Century School still needs some room for improvement, but I am very satisfied with this school.

New Century Middle School is a very good school. The administration and teachers are attentive to the unique needs of the student body.
Posted: January 30, 2020
Students are not being sent home with busy work. Homework consists of assignments not completed during class.
Posted: January 30, 2020
Teachers go out of their way to ensure each student is successful.

Say something nice Friday. Students tell another what they like about them.
Posted: January 30, 2020
The students have full understanding of the schools exceptions when It comes to dress code, homework, and behavior. Unfortunately not all parents agree with or support school rules.

Bullying, when reported to the school is handled immediately.

It is a poor school. Teachers dont care about students as much as they should. Whenever troublemakers disrupt class the teachers yell and make empty threats but when a good kid forgets a pencil they get 3 warnings before 1 hour in ISS.

Most teachers dont give homework but give too much work in class where most students fail because they dont have the hours it takes.
Posted: January 29, 2020
Most kids are failing half of their classes and the teachers dont care.
Posted: January 29, 2020
When students tell something they usually get worse punishment than the kid that did it.

I think the principal could be more involved but she is involved enough to keep the school running.

You can tell when kids are falling behind. Most teachers dont care.

There is so much bulling that goes on. The teachers usually dont care and a lot of it goes on on the bus. Teachers say they are too busy and make empty threats.

Horrible and I've never had problems at any of the other schools with teachers or other staff. This school is horrible to have to deal with.

There are a few that are great but there are some that are very hateful and just don't care. They don't like parent involvement at all!
Posted: September 11, 2018
The kids are scared to tell what goes on at school bc they think they will be in trouble at school.
Posted: September 11, 2018
Needs a new principal that is more involved and actually interacts with the kids.

There is always bullying going on there. They suspend them for a day.

This is only the beginning of the first year at NCMS for us, but the principal is unaware of the programs the school is offering or how these programs are run. Not enough information is given to parents. Starting 6th graders and parents have not been given enough information about "encores" or clubs. Lesson schedules where not ready at back to school night and lockers were not given until 2 days in. I realize the principal and assistant principal are new to this school but they should be more prepared and knowledgeable! PS: I would give this school more stars if the principal would get her act together.

New Century Middle School supports the Carthage, Whispering Pines, Cameron area and is a well maintained school. The staff has changed some over the years, along with several different administrators, but I think this helps keep the school more competitive.
They have dedicated staff and many active clubs and extracurricular activities.

- What did you like? Fostered appropriate environment for children, good staff development, always worked with me when I had an issue or concern. Medium sized rural school.
- What did you dislike? As NC schools have had lack of funding issues for years, I think it is harder and harder for the schools to address and maintain all the important issues. So I don't have a particular dislike about the school, rather a broader concern about the direction of NC education in general.
