The principle prefers parents settle bullying problems with the children, and the school does not adhere to North Carolina state requirements for public schools. I have heard about several very serious bullying problems at the school but no information was released to parents and no measures were implemented to protect students

Some teachers are, some can not handle the students, have poor computer skills and loose work submitted by students

Social cliques run the school, and although integrity and respect are taught, these character traits are not encouraged or enforced.

The principle tends to blame the parents and the students for problems. He has also asked the PTO to raise money to cover the schools budgeting shortfalls.

Maybe a little too much, some students are allowed to disrupt class on a dally basis and allowed to strike other students while acting out

Preschool to 5th grade was great years at a great school, the last couple years have been tough and we are glad to be moving on

This school was a good school and is still above average K to 5th. But Jr High is a one star. There is no single system for homework assignments, teachers loose submitted homework and a few teacher have trouble correctly entering assignments on Renweb.

My children are thriving at this school. The school has effective ways to teach all levels of students. They have a wonderful athletic programs and academic clubs too. The drama club is first rate. My children have great respect for their teachers and have formed friendships that will continue for years.

This school offers my child an opportunity to excel despite his learning challenges. Most of the teachers differentiate well and are open to getting support from the Resource Teacher. The former principal was open to serious academic diversity and encouraged parent teacher communication. If your child is not getting support, you may not have shared your concerns. The school is about teaching students, not teaching subjects. Every child is a gift and if you poll parents on the sidewalk at pick-up, you will surely hear this.

This school is a place of learning and hope for the future. God lives in the hallways and students are challenged and respected. Teachers go the extra mile and the staff has little turnover. Even though administration changes have been many, the teaching staff is the true rudder of the school.

This is a wonderful great and growing faith-based school! They are willing to work with children of various abilities and circumstances! I have 2 children attending the school who have thrived. The staff is fantastic in communicating and the administration is working to accommodate the growth of the the school by preparing for expansion! The staff works hard to apply the principles of Catholic Social Teaching in helping all students reach their potential!

The students are currently working on weekly character strengths and are learning how to be good citizens and Christians. The staff works diligently to instill manners and respect in the student body. Each week the Principal reviews the character strength of the week in conjunction with the Positivity Project. The results are amazing.

The teachers at St. John Paul II are very caring. They work and communicate well with the parents and students. My two children have very different learning styles and interests. The staff works so hard to bring out the strengths and help with the weaknesses of each and every student! They ROCK as teachers at St. John Paul II

This is our 3rd year at SJP. The first 2 years we were very pleased. This school year has seen a change in that they have received a new principal. I was extremely surprised at how the entire organization seemed to stumble at the loss of the previous principal. I am also extremely disappointed at the behavior of the new one. Whereas the old principal used to greet each family by name in the morning, the new one is more interested in moving cars quickly through the car line. He actually stands at the end and waves his arms for the next car to come on through. I have no doubt that his time in the morning could be better spent. He misses most after school and extracurricular functions (movie nights, plays, etc) because he maintains a home several hours away from the area and 'needs to be with his family'. When he is present at a function, like he was at the recent Xmas performance, he makes no effort to introduce himself or speak with parents. When the event was over, he seemed more interested in putting away the chairs than meeting or speaking to his customers. If you missed the parent night at the beginning of the year you would have no idea of who this person is. Last year I would have, without reservation, left a 5 star review. This year I feel I am being charitable with a 3 star.

In addition, we regularly receive emails from either the PTO or from our child's teacher the evening before an event is to occur. These often come in between 8-11pm. In our household, emails received from the PTO that are sent at 11 pm are going to be read the next morning, if not the next afternoon. In the case I'm speaking of, that would have been too late. Also, this year they are going to fine the families that haven't worked all of their volunteer hours on April 15th, as opposed to waiting until the end of the year.

The volunteer hours are something that has come and gone in my time here. It was present the first year (at something like $50/hr), then gone, and now back at $10/hr. Like other policies and procedures at this school, they change on a whim. When the current principal feels he has padded his resume enough and decides to leave, I'm sure the next one will bring another wholesale change of policy. 2 years ago, we sent our child to SJP because we felt it was a better alternative to public school. Now I can only say that it is just 'not public school'.

There is a 'one size fits all' mentality at SJP. If your child doesn't fit the mold there isn't much they are going to do differently.

All of the kids that I have encountered from SJP have been perfect little ladies and gentlemen. Don't know if it comes from the parents or the teachers.

Class sizes are too large. 20+ kids per class with a part time assistant is too big.

Too much homework for kids in the lower grades. Homework consists of simple, redundant worksheets....'busy work'

The school is more concern on finding ways to get money out of the parents than to ensure that the child is properly taught and disciplined in class. If the parent does not volunteer enough they will have to pay a fee, if the parent does not return the weekly signed sheet then there is a penalty as well, they do not take into consideration that we are working parents and a lot of times we have to travel or deploy. Additionally we get bombarded with several emails everyday about same events from different people, I like to know what my child upcoming events are or is doing in school; but emails from several people about the same thing are really necessary???!!! Coming from a Montessori school, this school is a downgrade for my child, unfortunately we did not know better when we moved in this area.

My son has attended JP II for three years and it has been such a wonderful experience. His teachers and the administration have been phenomenal. This school continues to grow and will only see more success. I highly recommend it to any family In Moore County. JP II will certainly exceed your expectations!

I have been very pleased with John Paul II. We've been with the school for 4 years and currently have three children attending. I love the teacher's dedication! The technology is fantastic. I know my children are seen as individuals with unique strengths, weaknesses and interests. They get individualized instruction from their teachers and have flourished. I cannot say enough about this wonderful school, it's faculty and staff! We are not Catholic so don't let that stop you from choosing the best school possible for your child/ren. About 30% of the school are non-Catholics. My children have never felt pressured, different nor uncomfortable. I am always impressed with the attitude and character of the John Paul II students. The list of awards and accolades could barely fit on a single sheet of paper! We are all so proud of the children's accomplishments. Much thanks are deserving to the teachers, staff and parents for supporting the initiatives, values and goals of this growing school. Our 7th and 8th graders have literally been the benchmark for the new core curriculum mandated across the country. Their sports are top notch and growing every year.

Excellent school with a growing population of students. The teachers, principal, and ancillary staff are wonderful. They are enthusiastic about the school, the students, and teaching, and it shows in the quality of education they provide. They also have afterschool clubs, an aftercare program, and summer day camps.
