I have been there for 8 years and the principal this year and for the past 2 years (same lady) is awful. She does not care about these children. The teachers don't like her and have said as much privately or anonymously (through a personal email one time sent to some of the parents, I was one of them). We absolutely love our school but this principal just makes so many things so much harder than they have to be. She really needs to go. I would avoid this school if you are able simply because of her.

Some teachers give enough homework to drive the lesson home but we have had a couple teachers who send hours of homework on one night. There is no need for a child to have so much homework that all they do that evening is homework.

I have not had any negative experiences such as bullying. The individual teachers often give out awards and achievements. They push their ROAR acronym encouraging positive behavior. Could do more.

The current principal is AWFUL. She has put the most ridiculous policies into place and runs the school (seemingly) without any common sense. She has absolutely no presence in WPE at all. She just puts rules into place then forces others to enfore. The brand new assistant principal has not been there long enough to form an opinion about, although she never makes eye contact in the pickup line and seems generally grumpy and unapproachable.

My oldest child struggled long and hard specifically with math and no one came to me about it or really wanted to discuss anything we could do to help him. On the other hand, my other son is participating in their accelerated learning program and we both feel he has benefited greatly from that.

This school has a lot of positives, but there are a few MAJOR negatives. Cleaning up some people in the office would probably go a long way to fixing those problems.

It seems like there could be more consistency. Some classrooms don't give any homework while another in the same grade might give 2 hours of homework.

I think most of the teachers are doing a great job. It seems like there has been a LOT of turnover the last few years. I'm not sure if that's because of the new principal or what, but many of the good teachers are no longer there.

It seems as if there isn't a lot of leading happening. Consistency and communication are pretty poor. It is really rare to see the principal around ever. I'm not sure if she's always in her office or if she is just not on campus at all. Also, it seems that a lot is let go. You see one or two teachers wearing Under Armour athletic leggings with t-shirts on a regular day of instruction--which is fine if they are a PE teacher, but not really if they are a regular classroom teacher. Rules and policies are not exactly followed--sometimes even ignored--and I believe that's a direct result of a failure of leadership.

I was also a parent who had a child in the class where the teacher left half way though the year last year 17/18. They only care about test scores and nothing else

My son and daughter were bullied on the bus. My sons head got hit against the window and I took them off! The principle is a horrid person and I’ve actually recorded her but the school board wont listen because it was against her will!

My Daughters Teacher inexplicably vanished half way through the last school year and they never got the class back on track with numerous subs until the assistant took over for the remainder of the year. Complete break down in communication.

The worst part.

The principle is incompetent, the front desk woman is rude as all get out and the communication from teachers to parents is non existant. We sent email after email asking about progress for our child with little to no response and then at Conference we are told our child needs to work on her behavior in class

Perhaps if you addressed this in the TONS of emails we sent we could address it at home. We cant address a problem we arent aware of.

My Daughter was tormented and bullied on the school bus for the entire school year, despite numerous complaints from myself and her mother the best thing I got was the principle telling us "maybe you should just bring her to school then"

My daughter got off the bus one day with a knit style dress she had on TORN half way off her chest because kids were grabbing it and tugging it and thats when my wife was told to bring our child to school to avoid issues. My child shouldnt be subjugated to being ostracized from the school bus because of unruly children. Horrid leadership.

When I was first hired years ago, this was my dream job. When dream jobs turn into nightmares, it's time to move on. I will miss some of the faculty and all of my students but I have to do what makes me happy.

We have two kids at this school and we think it is great. Last year was K and 2nd, this year is 1st and 3rd. Our children really enjoy the teachers they have had so far.

Sick of the disrespect at this school! I had NEVER been anything but kind to these people. The staff (mostly administrators) treat you like you are beneath them. I’m just so done. My child will NOT be returning next year. How is a child who has ADHD/Autism constantly graded with unsatisfactory on behavior when we are doing EVERYTHING that was told to be done?? Behavior therapy and medication!!! Will they even be given a chance??? Just sick of it.

Once again I am in awe at the incompetence of this new principal. We took our daughter to back to school night and SHE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A TEACHER YET. How can this principal have our students best interest if she doesn't even have a teacher in place yet? If you are new to the school I recommend helping the individual teacher and do not dump money into the PTO. They've been promising a new playground for 3 years now. They are just a group of parents with brown on their noses.

I have had two kids at this school. My son was in kindergarten this past year and his teacher.. Mrs.Shepley... was the best thing we could have asked for. She was so in tune wit my son and his difficulties. She had patience and was just a god send. My daughters 3rd grade teacher is no longer there but was AMAZING. Her 4th grade teacher was TERRIBLE. She constantly gave my AIG daughter a hard time. She was so mean to her. For no reason other than I guess her personal feelings about my daughters dress or the way she just was. Very sad that this woman is still at this school. My daughters 5th grade teachers were all great.

I think they need a better approach for younger kids who are just starting school and when parents first start to see a problem with their kids at school. It seemed like my sons kindergarten teacher was more understanding and knew more ways to help us than the school administrators.

There are ALOT of rich kids that go to this school. Kids who don't dress as nice as some think... you can bet they get outcasted. When telling staff nothing gets done about it. I had the same problem with the same child bullying my kid all year and NOTHING was done. To the point where my child wouldn't even want to tell me about it..

I can speak for my daughter who is in Kindergarten this year. We have been pleased with the amount of homework and the relevance to what is being taught in the classroom. We receive a calendar and it is nice to be able to look ahead and work on assignments ahead of time when we know we will be busy after school on particular days of the week with extra curricular activities.

We have throughly enjoyed our kindergarten experience. We are finishing off the year feeling we are prepared for what's to come in 1st grade. Volunteering in the classroom was encouraged which made it much easier to be in the school and involved in all aspects of my child's education and overall school experience.

I believe showing good character is encouraged. I wish there was more of a school wide character building program. I know there was a campaign introduced a few months ago to the students about not using the "R" word when describing others. I believe it was quite effective and I wish there were more discussions and programs at the schools about being kind and noticing those who play alone.

Communication was an absolute plus for me this year. We also felt there was an open door policy for us to come in and discuss any questions or concerns we had throughout the year. It is quite encouraging when my kindergartener knows both administrators by name and they know who she is as well. She is quite introverted so I know the relationships had to have come about from their interactions with her. I once overheard a conversation when checking my child out in the office where the principal said, "It shouldn't only be about the tests. The kids need to enjoy school too." I wish more educators felt this way.

This was our first year at West Pine Elementary School. Overall we have been very pleased with our experience. We as a family have been able to participate in many fun school wide activities throughout the year. I have been impressed by the number of parents I see volunteering in classrooms and at extra curricular activities. It seems to be a positive environment for both students and parents. We look forward to starting 1st grade next year and the new learning adventures to come.

Amazing school with wonderful support staff. Newer to the area, our teachers have been incredible and have gone out of their way to help our daughters transition. Administration has been welcoming and available for all our questions since the very first day. We are so grateful we are part of the West Pine Elementary family!

We moved our child to WPE from Pinehurst and I was very happy with the amount of involvement with the parents. I felt very welcomed to help out in any way I could.

This school has been fantastic! Wonderful, positive environment that has made learning fun for my child. Administration has an open door policy and I have always felt comfortable voicing and concerns or praises. Its been a very welcoming environment. As excited as we are for middle school I am really going to miss this school and the people that work here. The new Principal Ms. Tintle has has proven to be a true asset here. Ive also been impressed by the number of parents who volunteer at the school. Thank you again WPE for getting my child to excel in all aspects including character development.

2 months after my son started kindergarten the teacher and the assistant principal already had they're mind made up that they didn't like my child. How do you tell a parent your son is going to be retained and it's going to be a miracle if he is not by the end of the school year due to immaturity

Stumbled upon this website and the reviews actually have made me feel better. I was starting to think I was the only one who felt this way about WPES. I tried my best to love this school but it's been such a disappointment. I feel the same way that most of the people on here do.

The principal and vice principal show favortism to the kids and to parents. My daughter told me today that her favorite sub never gets called to sub anymore so they end up with subs that are 70+ years of age. The PTO isn't even involved with the school. I'm not even sure who they are! I'm glad this is my daughters last year. Otherwise we would be looking for another school.

Too much work. Too much pressure on students and staff. Lack of parent involvement. Unorganized PTO. Lack of open door policy. Teaching to tests. No projects or hands on learning. According to my daughter the children in the accelerated classes are told they are smarter. Kids learn differently so why teach just one particular way and focus on the ones who excel learning that one way? Lack of common sense. Principal shows favoritism.

My son started West Pine last year. And every since he has been attending the school he has been an excellent student. His reading has excelled and so has his grades. The teachers he has this year are excellent. The teachers care for their students and want to see them succeed. Keep up the good work at West Pine Elementary. Hope to see many more great years and teachers in the future.

My son has been going to this school since Oct and every since we placed him in this school we have had nothing but problems from the staff and kids. since coming to this school his grades has droped and he has told me a few time that he brings home more work then what they do in class. he has also had a lot of problems with the kids and teachers in this school but when I talked with the principal about it all he did was laugh and tell me it was my kid and how nothing was wrong with his school or the teachers. But my son also takes ADHD medication and I was sending some to school just in case but this perfectly unperfect school OVERDOESED my son 3 different times. They are suppose to call before giving it but they never did. Then my son started telling me how mean some of the kids was being to him and when I called up to the school to see if I could sit in his class OUT OF THE WAY I was told no I would have to set a time up ahead so the teacher knew I was coming. ??? There is a lot more I have to say but I cant fit it all on here. But I will be moving him next school year if I have to move homes. I will not let him or his brother go through this again... signed a mad mom

I recently moved here and I must say I am throughly impressed with this school! Their level of excellence and love for the kids is amazing! I have 2 children in this school. The Kindergarten teachers are so kind and work really hard to teach the kids with such creativity. They also show them early on the fundamentals they will need for the state tests and help them to exceed early on. My 3rd grader is doing great. However, I must say the work load is triple what is was in 2nd gradeback home but it has taught my child responsibility on a whole new level. My child is doing fantastically (honor roll) and teacher handles the classroom well and knows her stuff academically! The principal and vice principal and staff and very kind and welcoming too. The only thing that is frustrating is the morning traffic. It hosts the year round as well as tradiontional so it gets hectic. We leave the house 30 min before school starts and still have to wait in line for a while. So we just plan accordingly.But I really have no other complaints. I appreciate this school and the entire staff. I highly recommend this school if you are lucky enough to be zoned for it!

This school is only in its second year. It's new, fresh, full of great teachers. Plenty of space in the classroom, state of the art technology, and built with "green" building practices. We love it!!
