To be very honest, Georgie Tyler Middle is a wonderful school in some ways, but it also suffers from a lot of serious problems. Many students get caught vaping, drugs are being passed around, and some students are even getting high at school. However, when my medicine was found in my book bag medicine that was only for me and not being shared with anyone it was treated like a huge issue, almost as if I was selling it.
I honestly do not know if it was because I am African American, but the situation felt discriminatory to me. At the same time, many students at the school have little discipline, and I feel like those issues are not being handled properly.
I also believe some special education teachers do not treat special education students fairly. I have personally witnessed a special education teacher roughly handle my cousin, who is special ed, and I do not think that is okay at all. Some students are rude, bullying is a major problem, and 6th grade was especially difficult for me because I feel like our principal, Erin Luck, does not do enough to address these ongoing problems.
A pep rally about bullying is not enough. I believe that as principal, she should take stronger action against bullying, mistreatment, discrimination, and racial degradation happening within the school. Everything I have learned has not stuck and thats not my fault the way the teachers teach is not helpful thats why many of the students are failing and going to be held back.

We moved to IOW 3 years ago and had a great experience with WES. We figured WMS would be the same....I could not have been more wrong! 6th grade was OK but, as in the other reviews on here, 7th has been a challenge. My child is well behaved but has suffered verbal abuse from her Special Education teacher that was brought to the Principal's attention....her response..."She wasn't directing it to your child." The bullying problem between students and teachers to students is HORRIBLE! My child also did very well on her report card, even received honor roll 3rd nine weeks....but is in jeopardy of being retained because she MAY NOT have passed the SOLs. I was told, flat out, that some students that technically failed the year will be promoted because of their SOL scores. They want to send her to summer school....what is summer school going to do for her to help her pass the SOLs at the end of the 8th grade? After contacting the school board, my answer....."It is up to the Principal whether she is retained or not!" So where is the justification? Send your child to WMS and see how frustrated you get a week before summer break.

This is my sons 2nd year at WMS. There is a new principal and he is working so hard to help the Middle school grow and improve (not just the teachers and staff, but the kids). As in all schools, it is not perfect but it is on it's way. My son is doing great in the Middle school and I would not send him anywhere else.
