Girdwood, Alaska is a wonderful place to go visit year round if you are stationed in Alaska. There is the portage Glacier which is one of the most amazing sights you will ever see. There are tons of trails to go hiking on, however, I would be mindful that there is a lot of wildlife in this area. There is the Alyeska ski area and resort that you can take your family to go skiing or snowboarding at. They do have areas that are just for kids to ski and snowboard on and they also have equipment you can rent. If you go to Girdwood you have to try the Double Musky restaurant. It is an Alaskan local restaurant and their food is absolutely amazing. From the seafood, to the huge steaks, to even the deserts. Double Musky also has really unique decor and amazing customer service. If you are stationed in Alaska and want to experience its nature, I recommend visiting Girdwood during your stay.
