Aksarben

Aksarben/Elmwood Park is a self contained community close to downtown. Aksarben is Nebraska spelled backwards. The Elmwood Park neighborhood in Omaha (extending from Leavenworth Street on the north to Center Street on the south; from South 50th Street on the east to South 72nd Street on the west.)  This is a vibrant area with lots of restaurants, shopping, bars, nightlife, and fun outdoor events. They are focused on cultural, agricultural, civic and education enrichment. The Village has upscale apartments, condos, office space, retail and parks. The neighborhood's park hosts the city's "Shakespeare on the Green" festival. Median home prices are $120K-$200k. This is a great place for young singles, couples, or anyone wanting the ability to walk close to fun vibrant activities, restaurants and bars. Benson

Benson is centrally located and it has more of a creative vibe. Lots of foodies, artists, musicians, music lovers enjoy living in this historic neighborhood. Median home prices range in the $100K. There are lots of great restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. 

 

Old Market

Old Market is just like it sounds. It’s the historic heart and soul of Omaha with old cobble stone streets filled with fun and entertainment. The Old Market is a neighborhood located in downtown Omaha (bordered by South 10th Street to the east, 13th Street to the west, Farnam Street to the north and Jackson Street to the South.) The neighborhood has many local shops, restaurants, galleries, bars, upscale shopping and more.  It is not uncommon to see a variety of street performers, artists, and other vendors. They are famous for their weekly Omaha Farmers Market where you can walk the streets of Omaha and find fresh food. Dundee

Dundee is said to be Omaha’s first suburb. The Dundee–Happy Hollow Historic District is located west of Midtown (between Leavenworth Street on the south, Hamilton Street on the north, Happy Hollow Boulevard on the west, and 46th Street on the east.) In 2011, Dundee-Memorial Park neighborhood was voted the best neighborhood in the nation. It has lots or retail, restaurants, and high end boutiques. It’s a great place for young couples and families. It’s central location has great access to downtown and great highway access to get anywhere in Omaha.

 

La Vista

La Vista is a city in Sarpy County, Nebraska. La Vista is a suburb of Omaha (bordered by the cities of Omaha and Ralston on the north, Papillion on the south, Bellevue on the east, and Interstate 80 on the west.) La Vista is Sarpy County's third largest city, after Bellevue and Papillion. La Vista has a wide range of home styles and price points. Median home price is $140K. It prides itself on its great location, family friendly activities and great schools. La Vista falls within the Papillion-La Vista Public School system. 

 

Bellevue

Bellevue (French for "beautiful view") is a city in Sarpy County. It is a suburb of Omaha with more diversity and decent schools. It’a a calmer quiet suburban area of Omaha. Check out The Uptown BakeryTree Shrubs and MoreBellevue Berry Farm and Pumpkin Patch, and more.

 

Papillion

Papillion is a city in Sarpy County, Nebraska. Voted #2 Best small city to live in. Halleck Park is in the heart of Papillion. It has 70 acres of trails, baseball fields, tennis, basketball, a pavilion and a stocked fishing pond. Werner Park, home of the Omaha Storm Chasers, is located in Paillion. There is a lot of great upscale shopping, like Shadow Lake Towne Center outdoor mall, local shops, and upscale consignment stores. Papillion has a smaller community feel and its well known for livability, affordability, education, and a great environment for raising a family. Home styles range and there are apartments and condos, which are very nice. Median home price is $165K.  With a lot of fun outdoor activities and a good school system, Papillion is a great place to raise a family. Ralston

Ralston is a small town where neighbors are close and everybody knows your name. This town is full of tradition, like their 4th of July celebration which attracts people from all over the state to come see the parade and festivities. It’s well known for the Ralston Arena where they host ice hockey, games, receptions, meetings, craft and trade shoes, musical performances and more. Ralston Park is a great place to spend the day. The streets are tree lined and it’s a great place for all ages and demographics if you like a smaller town feel.

Other suburban areas near Offutt AFB to note are:

Chalco- Famous as the home of the College World Series. This area has a suburban feel with chain restaurants and a slower pace of life. Median home prices are $138K
Gretna-A suburban feel. Median home price is $167K. This area is family friendly with good schools and is conveniently located between Lincoln and Omaha. They just recently opened Nebraska Crossing Outlet mall in the area.
Bennington- Friedly community with a small town feel. Median home prices $187K.
Plattsmouth- Small town with more of a country feel. Everything is within walking distance in this small town.
Council Bluffs- Small town feel with big city resources. Median home price $111K
