"Hawaiian Suburbs"

Ewa by Gentry is a newer development built over the past 10-ish years and growing. It is a suburb of Honolulu and houses many active duty as well as former and retired military families with and without kids. It is pet friendly with dog parks. Depending on size and type of home needed, the price ranges from about $400k-$900k. Commute time to JBPHH during peak hour traffic is about 40 minutes. Without traffic, it is a 25 minute commute. The public schools do not compare to those you will find on the mainland. Among the local Hawaiian standards the schools are great; in my standards comparing them to western WA, they are poor. Primary elementary is acceptable here in my opinion. Ewa by Gentry coordinates many social events for residences. There are plenty of opportunities to be as social as you would like. Most people keep to themselves, but are very friendly when approached. Key thing here is it is suburban living with larger homes available than other parts of the island.

  • Recommendations: Any Ewa by Gentry neighborhoods are nice and in same general location. Ewa by Gentry has strict covenants, so the properties must stay well maintained and manicured. Other nice and comparable places to live would be Kapolei and Makakilo. They are both a little further west, but closer to H1 so the commute time is going to be about the same as from Ewa Beach.
