"Wonderful family neighborhood"

We bought our house in Riverpoint 13 years ago when my husband was in the Marine Corps, assigned to JFCOM. We loved the area so much he decided to get out of the Corps after 12 years service so we could stay. We love our house. The neighborhood is wonderful, full of friendly people. The homes on the river are quite expensive (~$1 million), so the neighbors are great people. We live in one of the most modest homes in the neighborhood, and I highly recommend that! Pretty neighborhood, quiet, little traffic, lots of green space between homes (unlike Larchmont, Colonial Place, or Riverview). Great area for our kids. The schools are not the best, so I recommend either private schools (Norfolk Collegiate and Norfolk Christian are very close) or getting a zone transfer to Larchmont Elementary (that's what we did).

"Lots of retiree age but younger families moving in"

The people we met were nice but most were older and had lived there their whole adult lives. Younger families were starting to move in while we were there. Not a large military population but its expanding. Riverpoint is a fairly safe neighborhood but its very close to Granby St and there are so lower income apartments nearby as well. There is a great neighborhood park.
