Cape Arthur is an established neighborhood located in Severna Park, Maryland. On the Magothy River, the neighborhood features a beach with boat slips, dingy/kayak racks, a boat launch ramp, grills, picnic tables, and a diving well on the river. There's also a separate playground with basketball and tennis courts. The adjacent neighborhood has a swimming club with a family-friendly summer swim team. Popular Folger McKinsey elementary school is located adjacent to the neighborhood, and the kids attend award-winning Severna Park middle and high schools.

The original houses were smaller, stone ranch and split level, and have filled in with a variety of sizes and shapes, from small 2 bedroom cottages to expansive, multi-story family homes. Lots are large but not huge, with tons of old growth trees for shade and climbing.

The neighborhood has a well-balanced social calendar, including a winter wine and cheese party, Easter egg hunt, summer beach opener, 4th of July bike parade, Halloween bonfire, and adults and children's holiday parties. Informal socializing includes watching the fireworks on the 4th from the beach, book club, and lots of time enjoying the beach chairs or crabbing off the piers.

Driving to our house on a visit, my brother-in-law noted the kids and adults on bikes, playing soccer in front yards, and generally enjoying the pleasant day. He said, "This really is like the American ideal neighborhood, isn't it?" I sure think so.
